Needs an update for the 2008 STI turbo and soon, once we know the specs, the 2009 WRX turbo, which subaru says will be different from the <'09 cars.
2008 STI: vf48: 250-325 hp. This appears to be an update to the vf43. It has a P18 exhaust housing and a slightly smaller compressor housing. The spool-up may be slightly faster than a vf43. Frank |

As far as I know the Zero/Sport A/R25 was a PE 1825f sourced directly from Power Enterprises. Z/S may have upgraded the actuator and/or ported it but not much else if anything. And good luck finding either of them... EDO is their North American distributor and they tell me no more to be had in the world. I even had a buddy in Japan scouring the aftermarket shops in Tokyo and nothing. If anyone finds any LMK... willing to good money for one. |

How about ATP? Their hybrids seem to spool at least as fast or faster than the other Garrett-based ones...

VF series turbos are rebuildable as long as the shaft and exhaust turbine are still intack and not bent which is contrary to what everyone says. I have a hybrid VF36 it runs a P20 exhaust housing from a VF22 to convert back to single scroll to fit my headers that has been honed out and hi flowded, the up pipe side of the turbine housing is now the same size as the factory gasket (52mm i think) it has a back cut turbine a evoIII big 16G compressor wheel nissan pulsar GTiR wastegate actuator (12 pound factory spring rate) brass bearing casings inside the roller bearing cartridge instead of polyamide to stop the center bearing failure that all VF turbos are prone to and so i don't have to run it water cooled. At 18psi on a factory version 7 engine STD pink sti injectors and a reflash this setup makes more than 235kw at the wheels (320whp) all the way to 8250 rev cut, it comes on full boost around 2600rpm and i reckon with a set of injectors and a retune i could squeeze another 5psi out of it safely. I got this done extremely cheap way cheaper than any new turbo of equivalent size and spool, food for thought.

Some of the flow rates don't seem to match with the hp ratings. The SBR GT-12 is rated at 55 lb/min but only makes about as much power as a 20G rated at 44 lb/min? Maybe SBR just makes really inefficient turbos or perhaps the numbers need to be looked into a little more.

Check some of the threads on here about the SBR turbos...not living up to their hype in many cases. Sorry for the OT. |
