Default to seat or not to seat

My stock seat's lumbar support spring broke for no reason. Maybe my whopping 140 lbs self stressed it out too much, maybe not .
Either way, its broken now and I find myself trying to decide whether to just fix it or upgrade to a lighter "better" seat. I'm a small guy at 5'9" and 30" waist and the 02 WRX seats fit me pretty well.

IF I go with a new seat, I will be rigging it to use my side airbags so width is important. Considerations and experiences would be appreciated. And I would not be buying any baller Bride or Recaros or Corbeaus. I'm a college student and will be buying seats with money from selling my plasma.

A seat with your airbags rigged on it will be less safe than a seat with no airbags at all.

I meant I cannot afford to shell out $1000 for a single seat. Brands mean nothing to me. But Bride and Recaros can get up there in full time job pricing territory. Price is important, just not so important that I pick up some O'Reilly seats

DaveNow: How would the side airbag be more dangerous if I correctly mount it at the proportionally correct height and depth with reenforcements to hold it in place if they ever became needed. Then I could make a removable "cage" for it when I do not feel they are necessary, like a track.

Anybody want to describe their impressions of aftermarket seats? As a starting point my 02wrx feel great and fit well. Perhaps I should fix the spring and dig around inside to try and lighten it up.

Take the seat apart and weld the spring tab back in place. Mine just did this over the summer and it was easy enough to fix. Took me about an hour, maybe two, to rip the seat out, pull it all apart, weld it up, and put it all back together. Forget spending a few hundred bucks on a seat...but hey, that is just my opinion
