Yes you can TEC-II it without turboing it.. the results may be negligible, and you'll have to re-tune it after you get a turbo. It may not be the best thing on a daily driver, since you will be on your own for engine management issues, and that can be difficult and annoying.

If you really are serious about getting a turbo, getting the tec first isn't a bad idea. THe tecII turbo or NA are the same, it just comes with some extra things that are needed when using a turbo (if you get the turbo set up, if you get the NA set, you can buy the turbo parts later). It won't do much for you unless you have a bunch of NA mods, so don't buy it for performance, buy it to become familure with the tuning software before you add the turbo and more parimiters to the tuning equation.

What was the movie??? "What About Bob"??? Take baby steps.

Cruising long distances isn't a problem with a turbo car, you will be running mostly like you would be if you were stock, your turbo will not be constantly under boost, but occasionally when you go up hills or pass someone. It is more likely that it is easier on the car than driving around town stop and go.

Default Turbo freewheeling?

I read a test of the lingefelter stage II corvette (twin turbo, 650hp, motortrend I think) and it listed 9mpg for city driving and 31mpg for highway. I imagine that means the turbos are freewheeling along not providing much boost, but keeping the engine from having to work to get air in. Make sense?
