Take a look at the collared sphere for the 5MT that's on our site. I think that's more of what you're looking for.

I can do something where its just a spherical shift knob that doesnt have the boot lip on the bottom. That way it would screw on, (with or without a collar, whichever you prefer) and the boot will just sit loosely below the knob.

Uh oh! The new Acetal Copolymer "plastic" shift knobs are in the werks!
Expect some pretty cool announcements from TiC within the next few weeks.
I'll be expanding the existing Aluminum lineup to include these Plastic knobs if the demand calls for it

I know you're looking for white, and I'm sure Chris can accomdate, but I wanted to bump this thread up.

Seems Chris over at WCLW has been playing with some new material. I'm probably jumping the gun on this as he JUST sent me the link to thse pics, but I though you guys might enjoy what he's been playing around with.

Custom "plastic" knob:

Custom made extension to put the knob closer to the wheel for you rally and track guys:

hey! That's my stuff!
Chris did a damn good job getting everything to my spec with the measurements
should be exactly one fist length taller
not to mention, with the metal extension, it will give the light delrin knob some weight.
The ONLY thing I might recommend is machining the extension thicker for some added weight. If, in the unlikely event, this aluminum extension snaps, I'll have him make me a thicker one out of steel.
*psyched*
I hope Chris can use this experience and some of my ideas to get himself a REAL killer app.

^ if you shap that extension, you have to lay off the steroids!!!
It'll hold plenty of force. Any thicker would simply be overkill (or added weight)

Here are a couple more of the ACETAL COPOLYMER which is similar to "DELRIN" (Acetal Homopolymer) knobs I have completed within the last 2 days.

This material is awesome! It is lightweight, making most of the knobs weight around 75-110 grams. It is black in color. It remains about the same temperature as the steering wheel so you can shift easily and comfortably even when its negative 10*F outside! This material is extremely durable and wear resistant.
The lightweight actually improved the shifting feel on my car! I have the full assortment of TiC & kartboy shifter products on my 5speed and the light Copolymer knob simply flies between gates with amazing amounts of feedback to my hand. Its more "in touch" with the car than any of my aluminum knobs ever felt, even though they weigh more.

Im working on developing an inventory right now.

Here are the pics:

WRX Tapered Piston knob:

WRX "G4" Style knob:

and STi Sphere for the 6speed!:

Prices will be released on the site, expect them to be extremely competitive for the best knobs you can get!

^sorry man... I've had the Copolymer in the back of my mind while I filled all the orders for Aluminum ones coming in.
Maybe you can get some special pricing on a copolymer knob since you'd be a returning customer

Newest Product!

WRX Sphere with Collar!

This sphere is machined from solid Acetal Copolymer. It screws directly onto any 5-speed Subaru without a reverse ring (STi models excluded). Comes with a boot lip to hold the shift boot up.

Dimensions:
Diameter: 1.9"
Height: 2.5" without boot lip (3.0" overall)
Height of shaft: 0.8"
Weight: ~102grams

Characteristics: Dent and scratch resistant (more than metal knobs, but not indestructible ), lightweight, provides a LOT of feedback thru the shifter rather than damping the feel with a heavy knob, about 7 grams heavier than the stock WRX knob, black in color, boot lip for stock appearance, smooth surface that provides surprising amounts of grip (a natural characteristic of the Copolymer material), threads are 2.75" deep so it only sits 0.25" above the top of the shift lever.
Plastic based material, therefore NO COLD HANDS IN WINTER, NO BURNS IN SUMMER!
As for heat retention specifics, it remains about the same temp as your steering wheel at all times. It is slightly warmer once you lay your hand on it for repeated shifting.

PICS:

This product is now on the TiC website

Yea yea, I should be blaming you for this cuz you had to come out with better knobs after custom making mine which BTW, amazing, I love it, makes shifting so much more enjoyable and for some reason, I can actually rest my hand on the shifter without feeling the grind like I did with the stock shifter and based on what the manual says.

I just purchased several feet of 1.5", 2.0", 2.25" black Acetal Copolymer and 2 feet of 2.0" White copolymer. Should be here by tomorrow so I'll be ready for some massive machining!
