'86 GL E-brake
THe emergency brake hangs up on this at times. Also the right caliper. It took me forever to find out the e-brake was on the front wheels...how odd.
Brakes are looking a little low. Assuming this could be why the front is dragging. Make sense??

They were doing that on my GL.... since everything else was shot (suspension, engine, etc) I parted the car.... but had it been decent still I would have swapped the calipers out. Or at least rebuilt them. My fix while I nursed it on a while longer was to not use the e-brake so that it wouldnt lock up.

Whats involved taking the caliper off? I've not done one of these before. Pretty straight forward? I will do pads and turn the rotor and replace the caliper.
Doesnt the rotor come off with just 4 bolts or something like that? |

Taking the caliper off isn't difficult. One bolt gets it to slide up away from the pads and off its bracket, two more bolts and the bracket comes off.
To remove the rotors, you have to remove the castle nut for the axle in the center (make sure you take the cotter pin out), keep the washers behind that nut with it, don't lose them, then remove those four bolts that you see holding the hub to the rotor, and then the hub will come off and then the rotor. If your caliper(s) are okay (if your e-brake is sticking, they likely need replacing), then to reinstall them, you must TURN the caliper piston as you push it in, because of the parking brake, using needle-nose pliers or whatever. Just pushing it in with all your might will damage the caliper. |

No need to seperate hub from rotor for this proceedure. unless you are replacing them with new. Most shops can turn them with the hub attached
