Cool Rear DVD player

Anybody here purchase the rear DVD player?
Just want to know if you like it or not, and was it worth the price.
I have been looking at aftermarket units, some with 10.2 inch screens, wireless headphones, etc., and wondering if it is a hassle to install.
Any feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Keep it under 90, folks!

When I looked at I decided against it. It seemed pretty basic. There are much better units out there with a better screen. In hindsight I should have purchased it as it is the only way to get AUX in on an 06.

We have it. I don't get to watch it but my kids seem to like it a lot, they can hook their video games into it too so that helps. My kid is a wiz at adjusting the brightness and what not so I don't really mess witih it anymore. All I need to do is show him once how stuff works and he takes it from there

The main reason I opted for the factory DVD player was becuase I could also watch DVDs (and potentially play games) from the drivers seat when parked. Also, the sound can output on the car's audio system. I know there are FM modulators that can achieve this but you will be at the mercy of finding a clean station which is very hard to come by living in the NY/NJ metro area.

Be forewarned though that the DVD player has very limited media format playing capability (as you may have read on other threads). There is only mention of compatiblity with Music CDs, regular DVDs and Video CDs. There is a long list of formats that may not be compatible (including but not limited to: DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, etc) so if you were hoping to play any of these formats, bring some along and test them on a demo model.

PROS:
- Audio outputs on car's stereo or can be listened to on wireless headsets (2 supplied)
- Wallet sized remote
- 9" screen
- Ability to hook a composite video/audio source to Aux line
- Thoughtful placement of 12V socket right next to Aux inputs

CONS:
- So so picture quality (espeically in wide video format)
- Limited media format compatiblity
- Remote not backlit
- Inability to control DVD player from driver's seat without using remote
- Not so thoughtful placement of Aux inputs which are in the 3rd row seats on the driver's side
- Only one switch (located on driver's side) to control the reading lights to either side of DVD screen. I place my son's child seat in the middle seat in the 2nd row so if a passenger who is sitting to the right of the child seat needs to run on the lights, it's a pain to reach over and try to find the switch. While this isn't really about the DVD player itself but since if you have it, this is the only arrangement for the 2nd row reading lights.

Best thing to do is to ask your local dealer if they have a model equipped with it and take it for a test drive (pardon the pun). Hope this helped. Good luck!

Mine plays DVD-R and +R discs including DL discs just fine. The only problem I have is discs with stick on lables sometimes get hung up on the edge of the slot opening when trying to eject.

As for the video quality, the RSE does not have as good a contrast at the front screen and the remote won't work at all unless the rear screen is opened. All in all, I still like it for the fact that it is fully integrated with the NAV.

We couldn't live without ours. I agree with a lot of TurboBB's pros and cons above, but it is still worth it. Being able to watch movies in the front seat when the brake is set is also a plus as I often get stuck waiting in the car with the kids while the wife needs to run into a store "real quick".

For you '06's out there who want Ipod support and you DO have a rear entertainment system, I know I've posted this info before, but seriously check out the XtremeMac Roadshow rear audio connection kit for Ipod. It has an integrated A/V cable (for Video display as well), as well as a cigarete lighter plug all in one. These all connect with one docking port plug to the bottom of the Ipod so it stays charged as you use it. I ran mine from the third row underneath the floor mats and fed it up between the driver seat and the center console. Anyway, here is a link to the manufacturers site though you can find it for far less $$$ elsewhere online.

ALERT: Do NOT use CDs or DVDs with labels on them as they will void your player's warranty as you have already been warned in the manual NOT to do that!!!

Just some friendly advice...

It's a typical CYA warning that many products have. There's nothing wrong with them unless you use cheap labels that peel off. Extreme heat can cause that to happen, which is the reason for the warning, since it would gum up the works if that happened while playing. That said, I shifted to printable CDs and DVDs long ago and was just testing my old sticky labeled ones since they're usually harder to read.
