Default can i use 1999-1998 impreza RS parts on my 2002 impreza outback sport

Hi guys, this is probly a stupid question, but please humor me.

Am I able to use aftermarket parts designed for any 2.5 RS model on my MY2002 Impreza OutBack Sport? I figured since both models use the EJ25 engine, everything would be the same right? I just want to make sure that I didnt miss anything important before spending lots of hard earned cash on my car.

Can you guys suggest any mods to the engine that can give me good power increase without noise increase? oh and, do you know if putting unorthodox pullies and cold air intake void out the warranties?

Thanks for the help guys.

ps. Impreza Outbacks are cool too!!! (i know what your thinking )

as far as intakes NO....as far as exhaust...MY99-MY02 is almost identical...the only problem is one hanger on the muffler faces the wrong direction but we made it work on Godmal's wife's 02 OBS....we put a MY01 RS exhaust system on it, very nice looking upgrade. Otherwise MY00-01 Stuff should work but don't qote me, i think there might be a slight difference in the intake.

hey, thanks for the info HndaTch627,

maybe the question i should be asking is if anyone knows of a good source for 2002 OBS performance parts. Ive looked in lots of web sites but all i see is WRX parts and past 2.5 RS parts. man..... all i want is a 12 second car.

Well, you're in the same boat as the '02 RS guys. It's really not that bad. In many cases, the engine parts for the older (GC8) RS will work. Also, many body/suspension parts for the WRX will work. Unfortunately, there are exceptions. My best advice for you is when you have an idea of what you want to do, first do a search (some people get mad about that). If that fails, ask. You're in the right place to get answers.

Some quick starting points - 00-01 intakes are compatable with 02. 98-99 intakes are not because they use MAF sensors and we use MAP sensors. As HndaTch627 said, there is a difference in the exhausts. As far as I know, only Stromung and Brullen make 02 specific exhausts.

Good Luck
