On overcast days, I like to keep the headlights on but it wasn't dark enough for the Nav to be in night mode and I wanted to change it back to Day mode but couldn't do so.
On page 5 of the Monitor System manual (not the Owner Reference Guide), it states: "...If the system has automatically turned down the brightness in order to prevent excessive brightness following the illumination of headlights or parking lights, pressing this button for more than one second will return the display to the standard brightness level." For the life of me, I can't seem to get this to work regardless of how long I hold that button down. Has anyone been successful in doing so? =================================== Also, does anyone know how to disable the DRLs? I'm looking to buy overwattage bulbs (65W H7s) to replace the OEMs and don't want the life of these bulbs to be shortened as a result of the DRLs. Anyone knows how to disable them? Better yet, anyway to tap into the wires to install a switch in the cockpit so I can turn them on/off at will? There are certain occasions where the DRLs do come in handy. I leased the car so I didn't bother purchasing the service manual, otherwise I'd look it up myself. TIA!

If you adjust the gauge cluster brightness to the maximum level (switch is on the left side of the dash) the navi-screen will stay in "day" mode all the time.

I have an 06 limited and it took me awhile to figure out the day night mode. The headlights are always on but the fog lights are controlled by the light swith on the stalk. If you turn on the fog lights the Nav goes to Night mode. If the fog lights are off it goes to day mode.

Werm, thx for the reminder, I had totally forgotten about that. However, it'd be nice to use the Brightness button the way the manual described since I won't have to remember to shut off the full bright mode when I restart the car. My FX had this feature and was very useful. Just hit the button and it'll switch out of day/night mode.

Oh well, maybe it was a mistake in the manual, I'll contact Sub HQ about this. Thx for all the replies! |

The day/night mode is not affected by the fog lights at all. When the stalk switch is off, only the front DRL are on. When it is in either of the other positions, the interior, front and rear marker lights are on, as well as the fogs if that switch has been left on. If the interior illumination level is set to MAX, then the NAV screen stays in day mode regardless of the position of the stalk switch. This is on my 06 limited BTW.
If you have been driving without turning on the stalk switch at night, which from your description of the use of fog lights it sounds like you may be, then you have been driving without any rear marker lights at night. Very dangerous! KuoH Quote:

As for OP's question, I found use of illumination adjust dial is the easiest of all. I use the dial all the time at evening drivin or ranny days. |

Another related tip I discovered on my '07 Limited the other day....if you have the car running, say in a parking lot at night, and you want to disable the DRL's but keep the car running....just engage the emergency brake. This will also allow you to view a DVD on your front nav screen with the engine running...nice when it's 20 below zero out and you need some heat! *heheh*
