Man this stuff sucks!
I was in love with it when I saw it in the store. Looks great, comfortable chairs and couches, great prices! Now that I've been using their furniture for 4 months, it's all ****! Holy crap, every single thing we've bought there has already deteriorated in some way or another. One of the drawers on my dresser just broke, so it barely opens. My desk's wood is flaking off. My coffee table is all scratched up... Bleh. This is my big **** You to Ikea. Never again.

Everything we have from there has worked well, but I think I'm past the "flat-packed" furniture phase at this point. They're still great for things like track lighting and toilet brushes.

I've never had a problem with anything I've bought from IKEA. But I can see how there could be issues with some of their stuff. It's cheap, I know its cheap, I bought it because its cheap, I won't bisch when it breaks.
If you want better quality look into Coaster brand, they sell quality furniture that has the look of much more expensive brands, but at almost 50% off. |

but 4 months?! Give me a break. I'd expect at least a year before things started falling apart.

Many of the people working in our Ikea here are actually from Sweden.
I'd shop there just to look at their cool names. |

Agree with avoiding any furniture made of composite and laminate.
But Ikea also sells solid wood items, which are of decent quality and cheap. They have an "as-is" section where there is broken, damaged, or in-pieces furniture... I troll that area for scrap wood occasionally. Last time I got a huge slice of solid wood, 3" thick and 6' long, for $4. The lighting is good too. I have 2 Ikea fixtures in my house and they're my fave by far. Floor coverings = win Cookware = cheap, stay away Sundries = win |

I have only ever bought solid pine from Ikea. The bookshelved that I bought have been in use now for ~8 years, mybe 10 years.
I'd buy more of them. But the non-pine stuff at ikea is crap and will not last long. Zach |

like everyone else said, you have to be selective of what you get at ikea. at home, i have a wardrobe, a coffee table and several bookshelves from ikea that we've been using for going on 15 years. no problems.

We have a Dresser, a bed, a metal and glass coffee table and matching end table from IKEA. I havent had any problems with them for about a year. I also used to have a loft bed that lasted me through my time in the army.
