Default 06 factory boost gauge illumination problem

Alright, sorry if this post is redundant, I did do an advanced search.

I followed the directions from Subymods, I know the wires are good via a continuity check. Everything was hooked up correctly, but I cannot get the gauge to light up.

From what I found in numerous searches, changing the bulb is easy, you just undo it from the back, etc etc. None of the threads I found had photos, so I donít know if the design is different or not.
I took the three nuts off the back of mine and still couldnít get at anything, how are you supposed to change it in this design?

I bought the gauge from a member who had good feedback. He said it was from a 06 and worked when he removed it from the car. I dont know what to do, kind of ghetto if I leave it as is not lighting up.

Well if anyone cares..

My pop opened up the gauge and fixed the problem. You have to undo the nuts and then use a flat-head screwdriver and bend open the front where the aluminum is wrapped around.

It looked like the attachment point had been flexed enough one way to break a part of the circuit board, he soldered a new point (I donít know the correct nomenclature) and the light is fixed. The 06 design is definitely different, I donít think the light can be swapped too easy. Here are some pics so if anyone runs into this problem in the future.

It's an LED without a dome. That yellowish stuff is phosphor gel, beneath that is a blue LED. The phosphor is excited by the blue light and emits white light. One thing you could try (not my fault if it breaks though!) is to scrape the phospor off being very careful not to damage the thin lead wires going to the LED die. Another thing you could try is hooking the gauge back up to power, turn the car electrical system on and measure the voltage drop across the LED. You can then find a similar led with the same voltage requirements in any color you want at www.digikey.com
