Default Ontario and DRLs

Hi,
I have a US spec 2004 STi and will be importing it to Canada early next year. I need to add DRLs to my car for it to be importable. There are several DRL modules I can use. I can make my lowbeams, highbeams (at reduced power), fogs or parking lights act as DRLs. It all depends on the module. For Ontario, is there a specific criteria for which lights can/cannot be DRLs? Any input would be welcome.
Regards,
Saif.

It's probably up to you which lights you'd like to use - all of those options are used on various vehicles models in Ontario.

Most vehicles use highbeams on lower power, others use low beams on lower power (like our Impreza's), some (GM) use their turn signals on ultra-bright and some (Audi) use their fogs. So I guess anything goes as far as DRLs are concerned.

Floyd,
Thanks for the post. So I guess I have the freedom of choice on this one.
Much appreciated.
Saif.

on my 2004 USDM STi they installed DRL's on the parking lights..... you should do this also since it won't mess with your other lights....

Pearwear,
I am tempted to go that route too. Who is "they" in this case? Did you put stronger/brighter bulbs on your parking lights or did the OE make the cut?
Regards,
Saif.

Sorry, it was a Subaru Dealership.... any one should be able to figure it out.... might cost you $100 or so to get this done, but might be less. They didn't modify anything except for turning the parking lights into DRL's.... as far as I know.

Car got through inspection fine... all you need is some kind of lights that are on when the vehicle's running...

Hey man,
I have a us STi also and I just leave my low beams on all the time. And since the headlights turn off as soon as you take the key out of the ignition you will never have to worry about wearing your battery out.And at the same time your tailights will be on which is another added safety benefit. And if I recall ontario drivers that is a good thing

Wrxfool,
That is doable, i.e. leaving the low beams on all the time. However that would not be a true DRL setup. I basically want to ensure that I comply with the import requirements with having to do the least possible. Connecting the parking lights to the ignition sounds like it. I was only worried about the intensity of the parking lights. Pearwear passed inspection going that route, so I will try that first. Thanks for your suggestion.
Regards,
Saif.

Hey Saif,

I was just talking with someone else about getting this done on their car on www.iwsti.com ... anyhoo, someone told them that they're getting this done at Canadian Tire for $80, and they even do it during your import inspection. I don't see how they can do this though as they're usually pretty packed.... at least the one here is....

Pierre.

Pierre,
I intend to get this done at my local dealership here in the US before I move to Ontario.

Saif.
