Default OEM trailer hitch

Has anyone installed the oem trailer hitch? I read Peaty's write up on the aftermarket hitch, but was wanting the more concealed look of the oem one. Dealer wants close to $1000 for hitch and install. I said, "no thanks." From what I understand it is a bit involved than a regular one.

I think (hope anyway) that the hitch install also includes the tranny cooler. Not that that makes the 1k sound too much better. You can go here:

http://techinfo.subaru.com/html/shoppingHome.jsp

Select the publication type as free then install manuals and look for the OEM hitch install to see what's involved.

Thanks. You can buy the hitch w/o the tranny cooler. My trailer capacity is only 2000 lbs. anyway.

Pulled the instructions and printed them out. Nice! It isn't a lick and stick, but shouldn't be too bad. If you've ever done a fmic install on a WRX it looks like this should be about the same skill level.

I'd get the cooler though just to save the tranny any extra wear and tare, that install is petty simple. I did it and I don't plan on towing anything:

Since this discusion, I've been thinking the same way. Added protection can't hurt.

If I planned on towing anything I'd put one on. The thing is the install is so simple it's silly not to. It's set up for one with a tranny fluid hose loop right there in the front.

2000lb capacity, but I bet the trailer weighs at least 500lbs, probably more.
