Default Clear engine lid cover/fastback style for the MR2?

Belive it or not, I've never seen this on an MR2 before, so I was pretty intrested when I first saw them. Granted, these are all MK2 MR2's but it would probably work on the MK1 as well.

^NSX.

^ Note the trunk mounted IC with wrx-style scoop.

Keep in mind that the stock MR2 has a low pressure zone in the area between the rear window and non-functional rear wing. Adding this would create a vortex, sucking hot air out of the vents, as well as make the rear wing functional. How much we're not sure, but something is better then nothing.

Thoughts?

Unfortunetly I couldn't find any that just had the lid. I'm thinking that if done on a nice, clean car it could look awesome, and be functional as well.

Less heat, better aero, allows for vastly improved engine bay room, just in case you wanted to do a swap of some sort.

The Gen 2 is much curvier than the Gen 1. I think it would look much better on the Gen 2's than the Gen 1's, and I don't even think they look that great on the Gen 2. Are you doing a swap to even make this useful? I don't know about the heat effectiveness, but I'd be suprised if the aero aspect of it made that much of a difference at average speeds.

Looks terrible. That NSX roof scoop is likely the only beneficial mod out of the 3.

Good, finally a voice of reason. I'm just fishing for what people think right now, and have no real plans on doing it, unless I get some motivation.

As for looks on the MK1, I can't comment as I haven't seen it. I might grab an old box and cut a cardboard version out to see what the shape resembles.

And no, I have no swaps planned for THIS MR2, at least. But I do a lot of hard track driving, and even with pre-cooling (Thermostat stuck open), the car get's hot pretty fast, and stays there. After driving home form the track last febuary, I laid out my jacket and assorted rain-soaked items had them dry out pretty fast.

*shrug* I'm just digging for opinions, as it's quite the hassle to go through it all without having somebody point out something I might not have noticed.

Personally I think it looks pretty good, and if installed correctly, it can be removed and the original engine lid swapped back on in 15ish minutes.

That's actually an NSX. Yeah, it IS very sexy. The rear window alone is probably worth more than my car though.

Unfortunetly, the other option for the track is a mammoth wing to overcome the low pressure zone bewteen the rear glass and rear end. It looks good stock, but it's a bad area for heat to build up.

*shrug* I'm just justifying it because I'm a sucker for racecar style tech.

Try doing a session with the engine cover taken off, just to see if it makes a significant difference in temperature. I'd be pretty pissed if I went through all of that work for minimal results.

Sounds like a good plan. I'll give that a shot when the snow clears up and we get rain

I don't know anything about the MR2's so what I said was purely opinion.

I guess i would have to change my mind if it had proven results to help disperse heat and rid the low pressure zone.

If nothing better than why not, as long as it is not just for looks.

I noticed that, and it's actually kindof sad, because it looks like a really nicely done setup.

personally i wouldn't do it to my mr2. i've seen one for the MK1 and it looks ugly...like a mini delorean. you could try to make a side scoop that goes directly to intercooler.
