Default ARGH!! Someone help me price this out..

I JUST got my car back after having it get looked at due to finding an oil leak of some sort after changing the oil last week...

They call back and say that I'm way over due for maintenece which is true, but that has nothing to due with finding my oil leak. So I go over there and we look with a flashlight and it seems to be leaking near the heads, behind the timing belt cover...

Anyone have any idea as to what this could be or how much it would cost to have this fixed? I'm trying to go after market turbo, and I can't be having leaks right now!!

BTW, the car has 104K on it. Is this expected on the stage I DOHC 18EJ?

well it could be a cam seal...crank seal...head gasket...oil pump...etc...tell them to go to hell with the maintenance and do ir yourself....you obviously have a pretty good mechanical inclination...you have replaced the timing belt and water pump right??

I am almost 100% sure that the leak is caused by the cam seals. It is common for the 1.8l and the 2.2l to have cam seals changed due to oil leaks. No big deal. It shouldnt cost you more than $150 for the complete job, IMHO.

timing belt is easy stuff... water pump? what's a water pump?

Yeah, i was fooling around yesterday, and I'm almost SURE it's the seals or gaskets around the cams. THAT I'm not going to mess with cause I don't have time, but if it's only $150, I guess i can afford to drop it off some place and get it done.

Been there, done that...my MY98 RS had NO good seals...they all went in a couple of months around 75k miles.

The main seal, the cam seals and the waterpump gasket....everything...I had my t-belt off 5 times in 2 months.

I think 150 bucks is lowball. You have to take off the timing belt to get to the cam seals. It's a pretty big job. Be sure to get a quote first.
