If anyone knows the local laws for CT and or places to ride ATV I want to know them. I just got a winter beast and can't play with it until it snows unless I find "legal" places to ride. Btw here is a sample of my beast.

Well when winter hits in Danbury there is Candlewood lake. When it is froozen over its 10 miles of winter fun land.

Nice!

I almost got the Raptor. I thought it was kinda tippy though and it was $1000 more.. But I WISH I had reverse.

Maybe we can hook up some time. I just got a hitch installed on the WRX.

Cheers,

Chuck

Cool, do you have a trailler as well? If so can you fit two quads on there?

I just got my raptor so no trailler yet, so I am limited to just the areas around me, which is Candlewood lake.

I was trying to search for parks and what not in CT that allow atv.

Did you bother to register your atv with the dmv? I am beginning to think CT is anti atv. I called the DMV, as per a cop's recommendation , and they know nothing about the rules and regulations? So how would I know if I am braking laws and what not.

So one start a protest for us !

Myself and another local i-clubber just bought 2 2001 Banshee's this past August. I registered in MA to ride the State Forest, which I have yet to do.

I've been riding mostly private land, either by land owner permitt or.......

I agree, CT sucks to ride. Not too many places that allow for it. Good thing I'm close to MA.

Well if you register it you have to pay taxes on it. It would be like $150 a year fro me. I am not sure if it will get you out of a ticket. I know they do give you tickets for Unregistered ATV. It you register it they will give you a ticket for something else like tresspassing. Plus if you plan to out run them like ME

They can get your plate and track you down. I think the thing to do is get it registered in Mass. cause there are tons of state trails to ride on.

I plan on getting a trailer this week. The one I am getting is for 1 quad. It is the small one at Lows. It is like $400-$450. I don't want to be pulling a heavy trailer with a WRX cause of the turbo.

Can you leagally ride at Candlewood?

Cheers,

Chuck

PS: CANT WAIT TILL IT SNOWS!!!

There is another reason not to register it in CT. Who the hell wants to pay taxes!!! If CT does not provide info/trails etc for atv, then screw them I will not pay taxes on an atv.

On a side note, talking to the cop who followed me home the first night I took the beast out into a "public" park, said candlewood when froozen shouldn't be a problem.

I figure Candlewood is owned by CL&P, so unless the call the cops, who can say we are tresspassing? Plus no cop in his right mind will try to follow in his crusier across Candlewood lake. :P

What tee's me off, is how are we suppost to find out if we are braking laws, if they are not posted anywhere.

MadMax

I want snow please. 2-3 New englanders back to back will do.

breaka from the board (not on much) also bought a banshee this year. he has miles of powerlines, woods trails and pits in his backyard in central mass so i ride there every weekend. my roommate, deacon shiva has a 125 also. there are some motoX tracks around, but i dont think they allow quads.
in CT from what i hear there is the thomaston dam which is closed now and pachug state forest. not sure what else for public riding.

from nedirtbikes.com

Aislinn I'm looking for CT trails--specifically around the Hartford area. Also, any place to rent dirt bikes?

Dan J. No. There are no places to rent or ride around Hartford. There are to my knowledge no places to rent dirtbikes in CT. Legal trail in Ct. are at the moment almost non-existent. Only legal trails in CT. are Thomaston Dam (Closed at the moment) and Pachaug State forest.

If all else fails, Blame Bob

skully Aislinn do you know someone with an acre or two you can ride on ?
Rob ....

ripin520 Aislinn My suggestion to you is join a riding club. Look into the Hoot owls or a western mass club heres a link.

http://netra.org/clubs/clubs.htm

Aislinn Thanks all.

Dan J. There are plenty of clubs without going all the way out to the Hoot Owls or western Ma. You have Salmon River (Marlobough), Berkshire Trail Rider (Barkhamsted) or Ramblers ( Ellington)

If all else fails, Blame Bob

Fatboy Join the Berkshire Trail Riders!

Meets first Thursday of every month at the Barkhamsted East Firehouse,
Rt. 179, Barkhamsted, CT at 8:00 pm.

see www.mudslinger.org for details.

jayled Don't forget about the Pathfinders!
PathfindersMC@yahoo.com
Our meetings are in Oxford, CT

ktmguy1 pachaug forestis a good place to ride theres a parking area to unload at and a big map of the trails there.the rhody rovers have a few guys that ride over there often and they put on a harescramble right down the road from the pachaug trail on a big farm = place to ride.we welcome all to jion us a any meeting.

Hmm... All the riding clubs that were mentioned are primaraly dirt bike only clubs. My uncle lives in Clinton too and he rides the trails in the local State forest, I can not remember the name of it though. I have riden the with him and they are good trails however I'm not sure how leagal it is for us to be in there. The Thomaston Dam does NOT allow quads from what I remember because most of their trails are very narrow and they are quite strict about enforcing the whole registration thing too. You might be better off selling the quad and getting a bike just because there are so many more places to ride leagally and if you are riding where it is not it is much easier to evade the police on a bike. You should have no problem pulling one quad behind a WRX if it is on a really small trailer, just make sure you grease the wheel bearings on that thing on a regular basis and you shouldn't have any problems. As far as registration goes, you are better off registering it because if its not registered and you get busted they can impound it and that is another headache that you don't want

I know that NY has more trails and what not for quads, not just dirtbikes. I just need to find one close to me.

I going to move to Montana, land of snow and hills and 130 people.

Yeah I know how you all feel about riding in CT state forests. The DEP is doing everything they can to stop quad and dirtbike riding anywhere, where its not allowed. If you do risk it and ride in a forest, register it for sure, they can only ticket you. Most of the people enforcing the no riding laws, don't agree that people shouldn't be allowed to ride, so they are kinda easy on you. As for riding else where, pretty much anywhere but in CT you can ride the legally.
Good luck

Hey Steve,

Do you know any names we can drag throught the mud so we can get some legit parks and places to ride in Ct? If I get caught without a reg, what will happen? What will happen if I get caught with a reg?

Lets all email the man that holds us back, who ever it may be.

I want to ride, and I want to ride free!!!!!

Word on the street in the DEP I heard today, the people in charge (we call them the Big Wigs) are talking about opening a state forest for ATV riders. There has been so much complaint about not having a place to ride them, and the requirement to register it, the DEP is talking openly about it. As for a person to contact, I really don't know. You can try searching around the CT website and maybe you can find something about the DEP and contact people.

As for getting caught riding. I think its only a ticket if its registered. Without reg, you get it impounded. And probably you will never see it again. I am not absolutly sure of this though. I do know that the Conservation Officers take the quad from my Park and go around the woods with it, and ticket people for being in there with Quads. So be careful where you ride, if your not screwing around to bad they will probably be nice to ya. Also Don't run from them, you may be able to out run them, but if you can't, your dead when they catch ya. Just an FYI.

Found this on the dep webpage, I think I will call it Monday to find out what the deal is. As it stands I think I will skip the reg, and wait till the lake freezes as it is owned by cl&p.

Well I finaly contacted the correct people at the DEP. As everyone knows, there is NO state land for ATV riding. As such no rules and requlations are published, and all riding is illegal. Nice freaking state we live in. Anyways anyone know the best way to contact State Rep?

Anyone have a hugh lot of private land we can use?

I don't know. I wish there was at least a few leagal spots. I think if they had some they would get $$$$ from us. Think about it. If you want to ride leagally you would have to register it and pay taxes on it.

Well, I like the main roads when it snows.
