Default Aftermarket exhaust question. The older the exhaust gets, the raspier?

Well I have a 05 STI with a Blitz Nur-spec catback. I also have headers, uppipe, down pipe etc...but I don't think thats the source of my "problem."

My buddy wrecked his WRX, so he gave me his undamaged Blitz catback. He had it for about 2 years before me, and when I recieved it, it was in above average condition. No cracks or anything that could contribute to my "problem."

Well, whats my "problem?"

This morning I started up my car, and began driving it to the gym. It was definately a lot louder and more raspier than ever before. I only had to get half throttle and it was real raspy (not a bad thing, I think it sounds bad arse). But, I wondered, if maybe I had some type of exhaust leak, maybe a gasket went bad. So I looked into it, no type of out of the ordinary sounds from underneath the car, or anything.

So I called up my buddy who is a master mechanic at a local shop here in VA. He said that the glass packs in the resinator and muffler of the catback could be "rotting" out causing it to be more raspier.

Does anyone know about this, or even better, expierienced this? Any input is MUCH appreciated!
