Default Mysterious Oil Leak, please help.

So my brand new car has an oil leak that I have yet to discover. I changed the oil at around 1200 miles just for peace of mind but now I have a small oil leak on my 06 STi. The black plastic piece that covers the bottom of the motor has a few small holes in it that I am occasionally finding a very small amount of oil residue on. I thought it would be a loose drain plug or filter, i have re-tightened both and am still unable to discover the source of the leak. Please help.

I have been watching the oil level on the dipstick and it has not dropped significantly. I would think that if there was a leak at the turbo it would lose ALOT of oil, maybe I am wrong. What would cause the turbo oil lines to leak? The car was not leaking any oil prior to the oil change...hmm....any more input?

One of the lines may have worked itself loose, or one of the banjo bolts may have come loose.

Where abouts is it leaking on the undertray? Left, right, front, rear? That may help somewhat. Also, if you've removed the undertray, and it is leaking oil, then you should see some evidence of where its leaking from. Like residue on a valve cover, etc.

I know this may sound like a stupid question, but by chance did you spill oil when refilling it?

The leaking oil is gathering itself in the middle of the undertray. Definately did not spill any oil when refilling (not a noob when it comes to cars, just subaru's ). Where near the turbo should I look? Remember now that I am coming from the LS1 camaro/corvette world with almost zero turbo experience so help a guy out haha!

+1

Or even better, did you use a new crush washer when re-installing your drain plug?

If you're looking near the turbo for a leak, the easiest way to look is to get the car on a lift and check the area between the compressor housing and exhaust housing. You'll see a big V-band clamp in the middle of the two. Check there. Also, you can check the oil feed and dump tube on the tubo. Oil feed is on top and drain is on the bottom. I haven't heard of anyone having a leak there, but you never know. Do you have any smoke rising from the turbo after a hard run, or smoke coming from the exhaust? These can be indicators of oil seals in the turbo going or gone.

Exactly how much oil are we talking about?

The more and more I think about this, the more it sounds like it's either coming from your drain plug or filter.

update: I believe the problem has been resolved. I originally changed the oil and left the undertray on the car while doing it, so when I pulled the filter off some oil dumped into the undertray. I thought I had wiped it up at the time but I guess not, so it worked its way to those small holes in the undertray. Tray has been thoroughly cleaned and no signs of oil since.
