Default Misfire at start-up after 1 week storage....

So after the snow storm I washed my car and didn't drive it at all for a week (i waxed it meanwhile.. lol)

Then yesterday when I fired it up, the engine made some loud "ta-ta-ta" noise for like 5 seconds.. then it gradually died down.. CEL came on.. car drove fine..

Had my mechanic pull the code today and it's a misfire at #4.. he said it's possible when the car is really cold and water got into the spark plug or sth.. i remember water dripping into the engine bay when i opened the hood after the car wash.. anyways, now the CEL is cleared and i'm back to normal again.. lol.

any comments?..

btw which cylinder is #4? is it the driver side one close to the firewall?

well, you know you've got to cover the scoop when washing your car right? Otherwise water can get onto the engine!

Seriously though... I'm not expert, but how would water get into the spark plug area? Bizarre..

There was this one story..some woman in Kelowna washed her car before winter and left it. She jsut washed it and put it in the garage i guess. Anyway, she gets into the car and the calipers were frozen to the rotors..totally different story kind of but you should always take your car for a drive after you wash it.

as far as i know, it's quite common for EJ25 (GC / GD NA 2.5) to have a leaky spark plug seals...did you mechanic pull out the coil to check? it will be a good idea if it has been more than 1/2 year since u last pulled it...

in general the coil / spark plug wire seal up with the valve cover pretty good, unless it's not installed properly?

the tabs on the coil packs on the coil on plug cars are notorious for bad connections. Also, the coil to spark plug can also get water in there. Especially if you spray the engine. also moisture can freeze in there (i.e. wash and no drive). I wouldn't be concerned about it unless it really is running on 3. If it is, just check the connector. Driving after wash dries out most of it.
