Default PIAA XTREME WHITE Complete Bulb Review.

The context: I drive my car a *LOT* (frequent 900+ mile trips), and most of it at night. I drive fast and the roads I drive in are infested with deer. Thus I require that my lights work very well, every time.
As soon as I bought the car I knew the stock bulbs wouldn't cut it. My first purchase was a pair of Ebay "HID Lookalike" bulbs:

Yup, they were very blue... Pretty... You know what; visibility wasn't bad either. Except when they BOTH instantaneously quit on me a little over one month later when I started up the car. I was 50 miles away from home, it was dark, and for the first time that year we had LOTS of fog. I never bought bulbs on Ebay again. The fog light bulbs quit soon afterwards.

My next purchase was a set of Sylvania Silverstarts. One burned out 130 miles away from home in the woods. The other one burned out 10 miles later. The fog lamps did the same thing except I was informed by a police officer that they are illegal in Michigan, so I never got Silverstars for that again.

My next set of Sylvania Silverstars lasted 3 months. Same deal: one went, then the other very soon afterwards.
The set after that lasted 6. This time one went, then the other one took 3 days to go.
My last set lasted 3. I will never buy them again! Junk. I'll give them this though: They were DEFINITELY brighter than the stock ones, and I like the white light as opposed to yellow. I'll recommend them to anyone who doesn't need H4 bulbs; seems like its a quality control issue.

So, my new purchase: PIAA H4 Xtreme White Plus:

First impressions: These are NOT blue, or HID lookalike bulbs, but they are definitely tinted darker than the Silverstars. Tint absorbs light, so I wonder if they will be dimmer?
I put one in the drivers side:

Low Beam:

High Beam:

Front. Also note that I installed a PIAA 168 Xtreme White bulb on the corner light. Those I *HIGHLY* recommend!

Soo... They are a little bit whiter. I like that. Are they brighter? I think so. Maybe a little bit. They are definitely not dimmer. If they last longer they will be definite winners in my book.
Are they worth $64?
Erm... Probably not. When they burn out I plan on looking at other options.

Oh, wait, there is more...
I also got their PIAA T6 Xtreme White (Each)

My dome light is now blue... It looks cool, but it is dimmer than before...

On the individual lights you can see the difference. Again, blue, but dimmer...

Moral of the story? I highly recommend PIAA 168 Xtreme Whites on the corner lights: they are brighter and look a lot better. As for the other ones, make your own decisions. I am happy with them, they are much better than stock, but I suspect you can do better for less money.
I bought these on the Tire Rack BTW. I highly recommend them: the bulbs got here in 1 day.
Stay tuned for my review of their Valeo wipers.

I had the Extreme Whites before I got HIDs, and I have to say that they were great! They shouldn't burn quick unless you got the chinese version
I thought you were selling your car?

Glad you liked them! I haven't driven at night yet but when I do I'll post an update.
I decided not to sell my car until next year at least. I like it too much

The SilverStar issue, I dont think its just your H4s. I burned my 7th H1 last night, THIS YEAR ALONE. Sylvania SilverStars are known to burn fast. I said F it and got a $5 Sylvania H1 bulb.

I have a lot of night classes, and the road leading to my school is very dark, but fairly straight and flat, so I go pretty fast. I too need a lot of light.

Let me know how you like those bulbs long term.
