Default speedometer quit working

just bought an 03 wrx 5sp-

Hi,
I put an OEM downpipe on my car to pass emissions. Then found I could not get the O2 sensor off of the aftermarket one, so,(like an idiot who tries to get away with things from time to time) I decided to see if it would pass emissions anyway. It didn't, go figure. On the way there I noticed speedometer and odometer quit working. On the way home it threw 2 codes: 1 for rear O2 sensor and 1 for speed sensor. I bought an O2 sensor and put it in. That code went away but sensor code and related problems remained. I also just replaces upstream O2 sensor (it was bad when I bought the car.) Is it just a coincidence that the speed sensor just happened to go bad? Is it something I did and maybe didn't reconnect something right? Is there something foreign in the system that killed the front O2 and now the speed sensor? If I have this sensor fixed, are there going to be 15 other sensors that spontaneously blow out on me (including ones already replaced?)

Thanks for any and all help guys
