Default can I use my 2000 RS powersteering pump and lines for a WRX swap?

Can i use my old PS pump and lines and alternator from my MY00 RS on a USDM WRX motor for the swap into the 2000 RS? Or do I need WRX PS and Alt.?

Thanks
Leor

no, you need a WRX power steering pump, lines, and resivior

Also the WRX alternator is a bit wider so get that as well

if you're really hard up for cash though you can usually go to a local hydraulics shop and they can make hoses for you for a lot cheaper than Subaru sells them for.

You do need the wrx PS pump though...and alternator like hndatch said...

im doing the same swap into a 95 and i have the lines and everything, but my question is "how do i drain the old PS pump?" sorry for a dumb question but this is my first time doing anything more than an oil change on a car. this is the only thing left i have to drain before i can pull the old engine.

just disconnect the lines from the steering rack.. It'll be a mess, but it won't be all over the engine bay.

Oh, and you can retain the stock RS alternator with the wrx engine no problem.

what he said, RS alternator works and fits fine. (there are discrepancies between the 2 pin and 3 pin alternators though. My 99 RS was 3 pin and so was the jdm v7, so they work no problem. I believe some wrx are 2 pin. But not 100% sure which ones.
You need the wrx power steering pump though, having the lines makes for a clean swap though, the RS ones can be retrofitted by a shop.

i haven't seen any 2 pin wrx alternators, usdm that is. My 04 was a 3 pin, and all the others i've seen were also. the older impreza alternators used a 2 pin (at least my 95 does), when the ecu wasn't monitoring it.

Only older JDM WRX alternators will have different plugs. But they generally match some variant of USDM engine. I have roughly a dozen alternators in my possession and from what I remember there's probably 4 different connectors over the years.

As for draining the power steering pump? Get a turkey baster from the grocery store and use that to get most of the fluid out. It's far less messy that way...
