News 1/6/2007 Flagstaff Cruise

Firstly, i'm new here, so what up! i've been lurkin for awhile, and postin in the swic forum, and i'm all over the other forums, but w/e. onto the juicy stuff.... So it seems theres interest in a lil Flagstaff trip, so waddaya say? Once there, we can hit up some of the downtown shops, check out the snow bowl, find some fun lil back roads, or just grab some red lobster and head back home, or alternatively lot 59 for the weekly meet.
Meet location is Arizona Mills' Gameworks/Harkins/IMAX parking lot. Look for the red evo!

Meet time is 0700 and we head out ~0730-0745. Call ahead if your cutting it close. My number is at the bottom of the post.

EDIT: Red Lobster is the eatery of choice, or so the flagstaff guys are saying, so let's do it! Red Lobster opens at 11 am so if we pace our selves a little bit, we should get there around the time they open.

address and number for red lobster
2500 S. BEULAH BLVD
FLAGSTAFF AZ 86001
(928) 556-9604

EDIT 2.1 (adjusted) since it doesnt seem like anyone's meeting from the far east valley, were just meeting at az mills in the harkins/imax/gameworks parking lot. I should be there early, so look for the red evo. meet time is 7 am. we'll roll out around 7:30-7:45 ish so bring some breakfast for the wait in the parking lot.

EDIT 3:

This is our semi-permanent route ladies and gentlemen. unless it's snowed in or something crazy like that. I'm going to print a ton of copies of the route, so noone get's lost! i WILL ALSO BE PRINTING RETURN TRIP MAPS. It takes a long time to edit stuff on here, so i will have them ready when we meet up!

the scenic route would be through Prescott/Jerome/Sedone on the 89A.

I'm sure the group can be flexible who's up and what's the best route - yeah he drives and evo and yeah he has spent time in a straight jacket / canvas room but he has a great idea

i have to grab the map for the exact road name, but you take the 87 through the mountains, past payson, pine, strawberry, and ~ 1 mile past the happyjack post office/gas station/diner (the only building in the middle of nowhere) and turn left. that road is amazing! woods all around you, and you drive by mormon lake which is magnificent, and it'll take you to flagstaff. it's a great cruise. def. an all day event, which is something that seems to be lacking around here.

route is 87 through payson, pine, strawberry. Up on top of the rim, past the turn off for camp verde(hwy 260). Through happyjack (union 76 gas station and a diner) left (northwest) on LAKE MARY ROAD to Flagstaff.

I'm not trying to come off rude here, but when's the last time ya drove past this? I drive from Flag to Payson 2-3 times a month and it's more like mormon mud puddle these days. Its still a nice drive, but I drive from flag to sedone/cottonwood about 10-15 times a month and prefer the 89A. But after the snow we're getting today, 89A might not be a great idea, even though you'll come through a lot of snow after payson.

hey guys good luck on your trip! Sounds like it will be a good time! I just drove to and from Flagstaff this weekend, with snow on the ground and falling, and AWD FTW when it comes to traction on high speeds and twisting roads. AND snow driving as well. Good luck, and I hope some people are really able to take advantage of this and beauty in our back yard of a state. We really are lucky.

Az redevo, good question. Let me know if you find out.

Hey guys, take some pictures and video if you can when you go on your trip. But until then, maybe this can be the unoffical video to help modivate people to go:
http://videos.streetfire.net/categor...73f715c3c0.htm

Performance in the city? Check.
AWD for great handling and traction? Check.
Being able to take a day trip up to Flagstaff anytime you want and not worry about snow? priceless.

Good luck guys!

Really depends on the tire, but most summer tires will suck in the snow, especially if they have very view tread blocks like the RT-615, RE070

The cold doesn't help either. I've driven my RE070 in cold (40) weather and they where quasi slippery. I've had Kumho MX (not the greatest) in below freezing weather and they liked to slide pretty badly.

I've typically run all seasons (Falken ZE-512) during the winter months in Tucson. More because I would go up Mt. Lemmon when it snowed, plus I'd typically have to drive through areas that get light snow during the winter.

lol, the tiny bit of snow we got yesterday will be long gone by the 6th. If it does snow again, I wouldn't say you need snow tires, but I wouldn't drive up here on summer tires (read 070s). I wouldn't be too worried about the snow, this season has been pretty weak so far.
