Thumbs up Oil Analysis: 8400mi on M1 5w30 - WRX

8400mi on M1 5w30, most miles from 22 mi each way daily commute. Looks like I can go farther. My wear numbers are the same or better than the universal averages which average about 4000mi if I remember correctly. I'm going to run out to 9k mi this interval. It's nice to drive 20k mi/year and only have to change the oil 2-3 times a year.

Ok, time to confess. Did you add the make-up oil on the same day you did the UOA?

Simply amazing, and proof that M1 5W30 works perfect for some people and that it can last over 8,000 miles.

nice report for those miles on M1. Yea it seems our cars either hate the stuff or love it. I think the consumption issue is more a function of slight variances in build quality and tolerances than anything else...

also dress how do you drive the car? i see you do some commuting, but do you regularly get into full boost? and what mods/level is your car at?

Ya, the 440 flash point is the highest I've seen with fuel diluted M1 5w-30 in a WRX for 7500+ miles

I agree. My car seems to burn less oil now than it did 30-40k mi ago when it seemed to go though about twice as much oil. I ran Amsoil for one interval and it didn't seem to consume any oil at all, but the Amsoil is a bit more money, at ~$7/qt vs the ~$4.50/qt M1 costs me by the case and didn't lower wear numbers any in my car. If you pay the $6/qt retail for M1, I would probably opt to run the Amsoil especially if you had any oil consumption issues.

Well, of my 22 mile commute, the first and last 2-3 miles are city streets so if it's warm out, the the oil has warmed up enough for me to feel comfortable doing a 2nd/3rd gear run onto the freeway. On the freeway it's usually 70-80+ depending on how much aggression I need to let out. On the freeway it's mostly in vacuum or 0 boost if going up a slight hill. Usually don't need more than 5-7psi boost to pass traffic if I need to. I might hit full boost again in the last 2 miles depending on traffic.

Overall I think I'm pretty easy on the car.

Only engine mod worth mentioning is IC hoses. Had Cobb Stage 1 flashed on it a while, but with the fuel here and my car it would ping under load so I ditched it. Now I'm working on a conservative map (Tactrix cable/Enginuity/Ecuflash) which leans it out a bit under higher load but also has more conservative timing.

Not really any fuel in my oil, my commute does a good job of avoiding fuel build up. But typically the flash point has been 395F +- 20F.

Were you using the CA 91-octane map or the regular one?

CA 91 map. Didn't make much difference over the regular 91 map.

Nice numbers!

My iron and lead shot up like a rocket this past time for some reason on ~7500, so they told me to drop it back down to ~5000 and see what happens. M1 Syn 5w-30 here too!
