Default Local transmission race shop?

I need a transmission shop with race experience. When my stock tranny gives up the ghost I am keeping the stock gear ratios but lowering the final drive by 5-10% to make the stock gears better suited for the track (i.e. I will have a use for 4th gear). It will also allow me to use stock gears when my car is trailered which are cheaper and stronger than most aftermarket if prepped right.

Sorry to say this Dave but I beleive your wrong,to my knowledge 02-03 gears are the weakest then comes the 04-05 and on the 06 they put synchro in 1st then comes the JDM stuff and you can go 1 step further and cryo treat but ppg gears are way stronger then a stock set .If you plan on trailering the car then tighten up all the gears I have had both 5 speeds and the usdm sucks for the twisty coarses.Correct if I am not right someone.James I would suggest dyno comp or Rich at Avondale

v6 RA gears with new synchros is a great way to go for the money!

RA have been used on the tracks in japan since 1995 and the ratio is tighter.

I know 2 guys who put trannies together all the time

pm me

Well points wise I cannot afford new gears. You have seen me out there, you know I am running a TTC car. An 04 set Shot peened then combined with a 12% lower final drive nets a usable 4th gear. I may go as far as lowering it 15% then using tires to add/remove more final drive ratio. Remember I am using the stock turbo so my issue isn't holding masive power but getting more torque to the wheels.

With gears power isnt the issue its the shock, when power becomes an issue its usually the casing of the five speed, in my opion your going a route in the long run with cost more and have less benifits, this car is being set for autoX or for Scca road coarses?

Those cars are very quick when you get to time trials good luck you have to get to 4 before you can time trial, the straights are pretty long at AZ coarses it will be tough on a tdo4, I say leave the tranny alone till it breaks because it will spend you money more wisely like on upgraded brakes and wider way stickier tires such as some slicks or 80 tread wear.

I am C with zero points. All my parts are on except sways, new springs, and tires. My tires will be 235 r 245 C50 R compound.

I am not going to run right out this quarter and lower the final drive, but I want the best shop possible. The tranny gets pulled and rebuilt at 100K. May as well have it done then. If I can source the parts b4 had, even better.

This less about money and more about working with what I am allowed to stay in C.

pm jdmstuff, i'm sure the guy he'll refer you to, is the one that rebuilt my tranny. i blew 4th gear synchro going down the straight, at firebird. I rebuilt with ra gears and all new parts, and it's been flawless so far. I like the shorter gearing too, don't have to shift to 2nd entering corners. The only bad part is having to shift to 5th down either straight at Pir.

Also, I hear that the de classing will change...it will be 1, 2, 3(advanced now), and 4 for tt'ers. And to get into advanced and then tt, you will have to be invited. People were moving up thru classes too quickly last year.

I bet the declassing thing will be looked at carefully when they suddenly realize they will have to add 80 minutes of drive time to each day. If you take a person like me and stick me in with HPDE 1 folks, there is going to be trouble. I will be stuck behind slower cars 90% of the time and they will be uneasy when the faster cars blow by them due to more experience AND higher frustration levels.

NASA Midatlantic has a much more techical HPDE advancement course, but each class get their own session. That costs money. If they raise prices to cover the extra hour and a half needed, the community will growl.

Would you pay 325-400 per weekend with NO single day pricing? That's the reality of economics when you make HPDE 2 a true intermediate class.

Can you tell I have been down this path before. See you in 3.
