its has nothing to do with insurance... go take a picture of the pot hole before the city covers it up.. and then the city has to pay for th damage

i remember someone on the vw boards messed up their fender/wheel and stuff.. city paid for it

I hit an unmarked pothole at the beginning of this year. Well Jan.2.06. I stopped by the side after I hit it, and I saw 3-5 people stopped also, which either flat tires or bent / damaged rims. I took some pictures and filed a claim through New West city hall, waited a few weeks. I was excited when I got a letter back from them, because I thought they would pay for it, since I had to purchase a new rim for my car. Anyways, they attached a picture of the pothole in the letter and said it was on the side of the lane and there's no way we could have hit it. So my claim didn't go through and I am still pissed about it now.

They MARK your potholes??? My what a privelidged world in which you live.

If I went in to the city here and said "Your pothole broke my car, pay for it," they would probably just send Big John out to the parking lot to bend my other rim so it matched.

In all seriousness, we actually had a "find the biggest pothole" contest last year in the city. I think the winner was over 15 feet across and 1.5 feet deep or something.

Be careful out there. You never know when a city street is just going to decide to swallow you up!

it is the responsibility of the city to inform the public of any development in a certain area where circumstances are to be far from normal to avoid
accidents.

it will be quite negligent for a governing body to not warn the public of such instances because people are not mind readers!!!

kuldud, the only thing that you can hope for is that someone contacted the city and let them know about the pothole. If you hit it after they were notified of it, they *could be found negligent.

A person in my family hit a pothole in Vancouver once, after they had already complained about it. Damage was ugly, a wheel and tire on a brand new Audi Allroad. The city cut them a check after they sent them a bill for the damages. I never found out if her being a lawyer had anything to do with the settlement, all I know is that she was reimbursed over $1200 for damages.

It probably wouldn't hurt to contact them and see what they say.
Good luck.

They hit a pothole that THEY ALREADY REPORTED?? No wonder they have to put signs up down there.

Can you sue a gum company for damages to your face caused by pavement because the package didn't have the warning: "Do not walk and chew this product at the same time."

I keed...

Yea, by marking, I mean them putting cones beside them. They did that AFTER a lot of people got their tires and rims damaged. And no, I didn't mean them red having arrows in between the air pointing at the hole that tells you to "watch out, watch out".

Still, a cone sure would be nice... Our only warning is the odd muffler or the rear-end of a car poking above the surface

^^ Whoa!! I would claim damage too if I could.

Just a little humour on how ridiculous the pothole situations are in the north. If you aren't expecting to hit potholes down there, it is much easier to hit them. If you have the resources, warnings are a good thing. I have just never seen it before!

Sorry to offend. My bad!

Thing is, the majority of the potholes are brand new from the snowstorm a couple of weeks back. What is there now wasn't a few days ago.

Yeah, that is what I meant. If they aren't common, they are more of a surprise. Where they are common... well, smooth pavement can scare the poop out of me if I hit it unexpectedly

Sorry to hear what happened, there's definitely a lot of monster sized pot holes out there. I drive from Richmond to downtown and ever day it's an adventure.

Good luck man, hopefully it will work out for you.

What kind of wheels did you damage?
I seem to remember a set of SSR's, but I could be wrong.

You know, the funny thing is, she's one of the top lawyers in BC, has clients ranging from the BC Gov't to Diamond mining companies in Africa, she bills $400/hr, and she's so busy that unless you're a major player, she's not interested in taking new clients.

I blew out a P-Nero today on Hwy 10 going through Cloverdale. Huge bang then a slow pull to the right. Thought it was just the bad road. Got home and yup flat tire. Blow out in the side wall. ICBC says it is covered but against my deductible so my insurance would go up. Didn't even see the hole!!

Hopefully the tire has some roadside hazard coverage from Pirelli. Will find out tomorrow when I get it replaced. Just what I wanted for Christmas...

Anyways there is a big one in the curb lane west bound on highway 10 just after the Taco Bell.
