Default ALL NASA/CRA DE drivers, the rules have changed.

From the CRA forums. The DE rules, classing, and format have changed. There will be drills and "follow the leader" track time.

http://forums.clubracingaz.com/showthread.php?t=525

Quote:
HPDE1 - Beginner - This is for the First time driver and the Driver will be required have a instructor in the car at all times!

HPDE2 - Intermiadate - This is for base driver that is cool to drive on thier own but stilll needs instruction so there will be a Group leader with Group instructors, after being moved from HPDE1 your HPDE2 GRoup Leader will have to give you the sign off to move. Session will not be open driving there will be drills and follow the leader stuff behind the group instructors - Dan Sturla will be leading this group

HPDE3 - Advanced - This is for people that have been signed off by the HPDE Leader and you have been cleared by the HPDE 3 LEader to be allowed to run in this group! - You will find more "Open" track time in this group but still you will have rules on passing and it will be the Group LEaders position to pull in the reins and have you guys work on becoming better drivers and truley keeping you at an advance level, some of the drivers might be asked to drive in the Surgeusa.com Time Attack program cause they have demonstrated that they are good enough to handle the track wide open! If your group leader recommeneds you and signs you off for HPDE4/TT you will need to be signed off by both HPDE3 and HPDE4 Group leaders. The Group Leader is Jeff Sturla.

HPDE4/TT - Expert - This is not a educational based Class this is full open track time downloads will be short and there will be basic requirments for you to drive in this class, such as Fire bottle, Long Sleeves Shirt and Pants, Gloves, Lock on Seat beats (cynich lock(?) and a few other items, This will be the only "HPDE" That the timing system will be on for, all drivers in this group are here by "Invite Only" this is the Elite Class, any BS occurs you will be moved down, by being in HPDE4 you will be allowed to particpate in Time Attack and NASA TT. Your group leader will discuss what is allowed and what is not allowed, This is not race group, if we catch you "Racing" you will be removed from the HPDE4 Class and move back to "3" - Your Group LEader is Brady Dorhman

These changes will be a positive for everyone. Cra/nasa have been working hard to make our track time the safest possible, and this will help everyone with improving their skills. Last season, too many people were moving up a class without without being approved first.
I'm looking forward to the new changes, and the merger.

I think it sounds like it just keeps improving. I'm looking forward to getting out of the east coast and into some balmy AZ weather for some track days, and I can definitely appreciate the fact that the organizers here think safety FIRST for all of the drivers, workers, etc.

I thought you said there were hundreds of people that were stirring about these positive changes?

David, Thank you for posting these changes to make track events safer for all of the Arizona and surrounding areas NASIOC members!

Being a Subaru owner for years, I have had 4 Subbie’s (2) 2.5RS 1998 and a 2000 and a 2000 Legacy GT and a 2004 Legacy GT, I have a vested interest into making events awesome for you guys!

I’m very impressed with the driving and attitudes of all the NASIOC members; hints why I hosted the AWD meet last summer at FIR and gave FREE parade laps to all the meet participants! But I want to also provide an environment that makes everyone a great driver and not just turn people loose to do hot laps! Doing that does not make you a better driver.

A great example is a Driver like you David H. NASA just passed you from the old Arizona based HPDE1/2 program and into a field of drivers like my self, Marion, Brady Dorhman, we all collectively have hundreds of days of driving if not thousands of days behind the wheel of Rally Driving, DE's, Racing, Auto crossing, Car Testing and many other things. Is it fair or does it promote safe driving to allow a HPDE1/2 driver into a group of drivers that has 3 weekends of experience with someone of our level of driving experience? No and it wont make you faster, if you get placed with a group that is there to help you become better and give you drills to improve your driving and to put mentors and instructors into your car with you will be come a much better driver allot faster than any of us did cause this program was not in place. In the Past! But it is now that is the Great thing about NASA is the National rules are guidelines are there for the Regions to develop and make better, Arizona is the best market for trying stuff, give CRA/NASA the opportunity to make the system better and to make you a better driver in the process, sending negative letters to national orgs about people trying make things better and safer is not a productive measure!

With this is why we are making a commitment of 4 DE classes at every event, compared to the past were we just did 3, CRA and NASA included! This shows our Commitment to the DE program in making it better for ALL drivers!

We look forward to seeing you all at the track and making everyone the best driver possible and in the safest environment possible!

This is great to see more eyeballs and instructional attention being focused on the beginner and intermediate class drivers. With modern technology moving forward at such a pace, novice drivers can definitely find themselves in over their head if without proper instruction, no matter what car they bring to the track. I take great comfort in the fact that CRA has always focused on safety first and foremost, regardless of whether most of us do not come out to events with a dedicated track toy. It's important that everyone receive a solid foundation on the basics before moving up to solo and open track sessions. With this infrastructure in place one can build upon their skillset safely and move up and enjoy stretching their legs in advanced and eventually expert classing or move up confidently into realizing the potential of today's higher hp sports cars.

Kudos to Jason and everyone involved in CRA & the local NASA organization
