Default Throttle body boring out

My friend recently sent the throttle body from his 2001 Eclipse GS out to a company that bores them out, and the performance results are really noticable. Throttle response is great as well as butt dyno hp. Does anyone know if their is anyone who does this for the RS?

thanks
Chris

Oh, didn't know that. Haven't been to their site in a while.

One could just get it done by a capable machinist anyway, just need a new butterfly plate that's all.

I believe the reason he stopped or rather should stop is that cobbs "bored throttle body" wasn't bored at all. It was machined slightly at the beginning only then the buttrfly shaft was machined flat. so it was no longer a round rod. Basically not worth the money.
TAD rally, out east some where does them. I had mine done by them. Bored out new butterfly and rod. Great work. 1 week turn around. Think it was 180 bucks. But that was almost 2 and a half years ago.

Interesting... I'd like to know if its worth the money too.. it seems to help other cars with throttle response, but one would think a bored out throttle body + intake would make a big difference..

Who knows.. I'll find out when I get an extra to bore out

I doubt there is a DIY mod for this. It sounds easy in theory but you have to get a new throttlw blade and consider where the idle air control intakes are.

My bad, I guess it's not the same thing. This was what I was referring to: http://www.i-club.com/forums/showthr...ottle+body+mod

I might try this soon unless there is a good reason not to.

We still offer the throttle body service on a "service" basis. We had them on our web site in the past, but we could never acquire enough core throttle bodies to provide a quick turn-around on them. Subaru used several different throttle bodies (98, 99, 00 are all different) and you can only purchase them complete with sensors. That doesn't make it very cost effective from a business stand-point.

As for the work we perform to the throttle body, it is a bit more involved than simply machining the shaft. We increase the inner diameter to 64mm, taper the leading edge, install a new butterfly, machine the center shaft, and counter-sink the screws which hold the butterfly to the shaft.

Many machine shops can do this. I would suggest contacting them first if you're in a hurry. Otherwise, we can provide you the service but you have to send us your TB first.

Cheers,
Trey

I think the price was between $200 - $240 for the TB work.

Default Throttle Body Hp

From reading up on bored out throttle bodies in a good deal of magazines, hp is not increased at all and sometimes some hp is lost. The only noticable thing was that throttle response was increased a good deal in all of the cars that this was performed on. This is on late model imports, non-turbocharged.

Wink Prices...........

BTW, the price is $400 dollars. there is a $150 core charge, so you really only pay about $250 bucks.

you might wanna double check........www.cobbtuning.com

I agree with Kevin thomas, I have also heard that there isn't really a gain in hp. if any, it's probably only about 2-3 hp. like he said, some cars lossed hp.

anyway, happy car tuning
