Default massive idle problem after violent axle brake??



I am having a massive problem with my 2000 Legacy 2.5L.

The whole problem started after I had a front drivers side ball joint, and axle brake violenty one day. the ball joint completely poped out of its collar, since the bolt had aparently either fallen out or whatever??. this happened when going about 55 MPH and hitting a dip of sorts in theroad. anyway, the wheel slammed into the fender well, locking the wheel while the rest continued to travel 55 MPH untill I could stop.

After replacing everything the next day, I have had a problem with VERY VERY rough idle when in gear (4EAT) while sitting at a light or any time while not moving when the car is in gear. (Any Gear)

The whole car shakes untill I depress the brake, and then the car immediately starts moving without even touching the gass.
"It feels like my car is refusing to sit still while in gear".???!!!!!

I have a manual trans so someone that knows the 4eat will have to verify but, it sounds like your center diff/clutch packs are dead. What is left of them is engage until you hit the brake and it is stalling the engine but the ECU is trying to compensate.

The auto setups changed a bit over the years and I do not know the specifics nor do I know how to verify. How does it turn in a parking lot/sharp corner?

(Torque converter clutch is locked up, giving the feeling of a manual trans car with the clutch out.)

Why is this?? I don't know.

Maybe a wire got cut on the drivers side?

Sounds exactly like a stuck clutch in the converter. Got to get in there and check the signal from ECU-to-trans, then move on to mechanical problems if that's not it. Like a clogged/broken solonoid for the TCC, maybe from the drivetrain shock of your recent broken parts??

On most cars, you can change the solonoid with the trans still in the car.
