Anchorage, Alaska - A hit-and-run vehicle accident ended in a shooting on Christmas Eve.

The Anchorage Police Department says 22-year-old Joshua Nida was driving down LaTouche Street, near 10th Avenue and Karluk Street, in his red Subaru when he hit a parked car. Another man witnessed the accident, according to officials.

It was then that police say Nida pulled out a rifle and the witness pulled out a pistol. The man with the pistol pulled the trigger, hitting Nida a block from the original collision.

"We've made contact with the shooter and three other witnesses in the area, so we're still waiting to complete the investigation by talking to the witness who was in the car," said APD spokesperson Anita Shell.

No arrests have been made thus far. Police say at this time the shooter is facing assault and weapons charges.

"red Subaru" isn't too descriptive. Could be an early 90's wagon or something.

People need to chill the **** out.

wtf how in the hell can the guy that pulled the pistol and shoot at the guy with the rifle be faceing any charges, its no longer against the law to stand your ground if your in fear of your life, personally if this the way it went down then i agree with the guy that shot at the guy with the rifle, that law went into effect back in october i believe.frankly i would have done the same thing. unless it was illegal for the shooter to own a hand gun then the charges should be dropped since he was doing what the state law said he could do

I think he's talking about the guy that shot the other dude lol. It's ok to wonder if we know the red Subaru or not.

The question is, wtf did the guy pull out a rifle? lol.

I was saying the guy could be driving anything from the early 90's to today, could be any car out there.

Also, my "red Subaru" remark wasn't aimed at you, but more towards the article.

And I meant the shooters need to chill out. I need to use my smilies better.

I wonder what time it was at. I drove down LaTouche at about 9pm, while waiting for someone---I wanted some Village Inn, but they were closed.

that sucks. the world is a crazy place.

Sad to say but this town is getting worse by the minute...

If there was someone pointing a rifle at me though they'd have to get me for more than a assault charge.

I was just witness to an accident at Boniface and the Glenn. It involved a Taxi van and a Dodge Durango. It was a good thing I turned around and went back, because upon arriving at the scene the taxi driver was cussing, yelling, and getting in the woman's face as she was trying to console her 2 children in the car. I really felt like hitting this guy because he was yelling at this woman telling her that she shouldn't be trying to kill her kids like that. Me and my friend basically forced the guy to return to his van and wait for the police to show up.

I've never seen such madness before at the scene of an accident, and I've been witness to more than my fair share. My first one in this town though. It kind of makes me not want to stop the next time I see an accident.

It's the first wave of non parented adolescents taking each other out that has brought the numbers three higher than last year. I can only hope they keep it to themselves.

Yeah everyone was fine. Both vehicles were in-op. The Durango was smashed all the way back to the radiator, and wouldn't even turnover. The Astrovan probably needs all new front suspension as the passanger front tire was sitting at 15 degree's of negative camber.

sounds like alot could have happened. For all we know the guy in the red subaru could have had the rifle to protect himself. Maybe not the most reasonable scenerio but who knows. The guy who shot him from a block away should be prosecuted as there seemed to be no threat at all to his life and he had no reason to pull his gun. If it had been me and I was in his position, I would have at least waited to see what the guy with the rifle was doing. I know it sounds retarded, but its the best way to keep yourself out of trouble. There are some rediculous laws out there but they do serve a purpose(mostly)

Sounds like you and your friend helped out tremendously, who knows what the guy would have done if you weren't there.
