Some kind of silver.

Default Muffler for a 2.5RS

Need some suggestions, I want to add a muffler to my 04' 2.5RS just to give it a bit of a throaty sound to it.

I had a muffler on my last car (a MazdaP5) but it was so noisy that on the highway it droned into my brain and I wanted to kill myself.

Could you guys suggest a muffler that would not be buzzy at highway speeds? I drive on a highway each and every day for long periods of time.

I would recomend remus. They make OEM systems for high class European sports cars, BMW,, Ferrari I believe. Deffinetly not a fart can, and comes in a lot of different styles and prices. autoaccessorystore.com has them, and some sound clips. It kind of seems like a more rice oriented site than performance, but there is some good stuff there. I've been fawning over the duely tipped ralley muffler

I went with a Stomung on my 2002 RS. It gave it a nice throaty growl under accelleration, but did not drone. I got the dual tip which looked pretty cool too.

Have an STi exhaust modified to fit your car. Would take less work than it did with my Legacy and it sounds super nice

I have the same exhaust on my 02 RS, it sounds great, and like stated above, it doesn't drone on the highway.

I've also got the STi modded to fit and it's not too bad at all, but i hear Stromung is where it's at

I'll add a 3rd Stromung suggestion. Had one on my '00 RS and loved the sound. Every once in a while (like coming home at 1 AM) I was kinda bugged by it being a bit loud, but mostly, it's good solid low-mid tones. You WILL notice it on the highway (i.e. it's not stock-like quiet) but it's not that droning, whiney noise you can sometimes get with other exhausts. I strongly reccomend.

Also, might want to check the classified here or maybe Ebay -- the Stromung exhaust is all stainless, so you can usually save some cash with a used can that's still in great shape.

Check out the Naturally Aspirated forum (the top of the Technical forums) and poke around in the exhaust threads. There are videos and sound clips of most of the major exhaust brands on NA cars there.

If you just want a little more sound under acceleration, grab a Cobb or Injen intake.

That said, Stromung + Borla-replica headers (ebay) FTW.
