Default Which Turbo?

I decieded not to sell my tmic. It works too well. I sold the last one and had to track down this one. I'm just going to stay TMIC and find a good turbo to work with it.
I seem to have a good package put togther why part it out.

Ok its turbo time. So what is the good and bad side of these? I've heard and seen alot on the VF39 and Green. But nothing about the 1820

VF39
PE1820
FP Green

This is with:
APS TMIC, Y pipe, CAI, Turbo Inlet, 50/50 BOV,3in TBE (catless)
Aftermarket Controler IC Spray System / Ecutek

Adding at the same time. Fuel pump, Injectors,Samco hose kit, APS tumbler deletes, header/uppipe

Now with the TD04 I made some good numbers. But I want about over 335HP @ wheels. Torque will be nice anyway I look at it.

DynoComp said go with a new VF39 and be happy. I didnt tell them what kinda power I wanted though. I'm guessing its going to fall short.

I have no info really on the pe1820. Alot of people recomemnd that turbo. Good chance of hitting that number I was told.

FP Green.. Cheap and Dirty HP...

I'm not looking for the cheapest route. I want something thats going to last. I dont mind saving and paying for it. I'd have the turbo coated and ported. Has to stay internal. I know people say EWG is the way to go. But I like my set up now. I dont want to change it.

No rotated set up. I just dont know enough about them and I think it would be too much for everyday driving of 100 miles a day round trip to work.

For those numbers on 91 look towards the SR56 or similar on the DD dyno.

No way your getting 335 on either of the first two and i dont think the last one either. Also, no way your getting that on a TMIC.

I do 343 at DynoComp using... wait for it... a TMIC. Spearco's TMIC to be exact. For the snail I'm using a deadbolt built IWG'ed td06h-20g with a 3" inlet and a 7 degree clipped turbine.

Anyway, below is plot of my setup vs a 1820, both at DC and both tuned by Richard. Of course, comparing plots is not exact, but at least you can see some trends. I don't remember the guy's name who gave me his 1820 plot, or else I'd have him weight in. Good luck deciding what you want; I hope this might help in some way. Oh... the 1820 is the red.

If 06STi doesn't have a 2006 STi, then, yeah, that changes things. Was wondering why someone would put a TD04 on an STi... they didn't. So are we talking about a 2.0 wrx?

Dropped.. Thanks... That seems to sum it up there.

Looks like I'll be looking at the green with the 8cm housing IWG set up.
That should put me right where I want.

Did you get any heat soak?
Hows the Spearco weight in on the APS TMIC? What Y pipe are you running.
What was the other color turbos on that graph?

Also yeah its a long story but 2.5 TR is what I have.

06STi, you're welcome, of course. Sorry for the delay. My vid card died and I've been a little behind ever since. I had the APS on my WRX; after owning both I think I like the Spearco better. It's a little lighter, so, if we assume all else to be the same, once it heats up it will cool down faster. The Spearco appears to hang over the turbo to a lesser degree, thus not blocking as much of the little heat chimney part of the scoop; Seems like this could only help when it comes to heat soak issues. But my personal favorite thing about it... I don't have to get the turbo elbow hose and the throttle body hose to line up at the same time! There is actually enough room to bend and wiggle in the t-body hose after the intercooler is installed. To be fair to the APS... it is the better looking unit; it's paint job makes it look better next to the bare metal Spearco. Its fitment is also better... its APS after all.

I do get a little heat soak, even though the turbo is ceramic coated, wrapped and has the stock heat shield. I think a little heating is unavoidable. It's only apparent in the summer, and a few presses on the IC spray button when at a light helps.

I'm using the stock STi Y-pipe. The other color (green) was the run prior to the final tuning tweaks and the final run.

dubya05, thanks!

Those numbers are short lived in the winter and done after a gear or two in the summer a top mount cant keep up with a big turbo plain and simple in Az youll love your car in the morning and late at night and hate it during the rest of the day.The sti topmount flow a better heat rate exchange then the sparco top mount does. There is a reason almost every track car has a front mount. Now if we lived in Alaska Top mount flw.

My vote is 8cm 20g or Green sized turbo.

Clark seems to like these guys: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1151077

I think their Frank 50 is about Green sized.
