Default CEL, P0400, loss of power and chugging

I'm really beginning to think my Legacy doesn't like me any more. I had two good years of service out of it, and now for the past several months it's just been one issue after another.

Anyhow... the latest thing is this chugging it's doing. I've had recurring issues with the EGR valve (at least, that's what the CEL code says), and I was told that the latest code is yet again "EGR Flow Malfunction" (though I haven't taken it to Advance Auto for a reading yet). It's been cleaned and cleaned and cleaned, but the light just keeps coming back. It's never manifested an actual perceptible problem until now. The engine will just suddenly start chugging with varying degrees of severity. It *only* does this under acceleration. Once I'm up to cruising speed, it's fine. Occasionally, it's actually severe enough to cause the CEL to start flashing. But again, it stops once at cruising speed.

I have no issues with the car other than this. I just wish I could get it back to the way it was a few months ago.

you might have already checked this stuff, but i'd also check the plugs and wires. and never trust the "pre-gaps" on your sparkplugs.

Yeah, I guess that's something I can give a shot over the weekend.

I've felt misfires before, though... and this doesn't seem to be that. Also doesn't explain the P0400 code.
