Is there a reason I cant get any OBD2 reader to work on my 06? Did something change in 06 models? The reader will read up to 03, so says the reader. I havent tested it on other cars besides an 03 forester. Does that matter? Any help is great.

It does matter for some testers. Some for example, won't work on Subarus for some reason. I also think that some testers won't work with some 04+ models as sometime late 04/early 05 the VIN is embedded into the OBDII code, but that's just a guess. If you want another one, Actron is really THE brand to get as it's relatively cheap and drop dead easy to use.

I know you posted about actron, but I was wondering if you have had any experience with it. I dont want to buy something even if its below 100 bucks if its not gonna work. Thanks for your reply unabomber.

Two suggestions- buy the unit from someplace that will take it back if it doesn't work, and before buying contact the mfr. directly and ask them to confirm whether it will work on your specific car.

Stop at a place like Autozone and read the stuff on the package the Actron comes in. That's a start, then ask one of the reps about your remaining questions, including can I return it if it doesn't work on my car? He should be confident enough to say yes.

I have an Actron CP9125. It cost around 69 bucks if I remember right (bought it at Advance) and the only thing problem I've had with it, is that the booklet included with it doesn't have all the codes.

My buddies Rolls for instance, threw some codes that I had to look up on the intergnat.
