Legacy Legacy Spec B 2006 or 2007?

So I have a dilema and I would like some help. I can't say which I like better the '06 or the '07. I like the exterior color and the limited number of the '06 but I like the interior and the 6 speed MT of the '07. My boyfriend is no help at all because depending on his mood for the day he changes his mind. My perfect Spec B would be the combination of both. Thanks.

SI Drive has been getting some good reviews, I'd wait for '07. 6MT is a much better transmission. Sure, it's got shorter gears, but it's stronger, and much smoother. Seats on the '07 are better for the twistys too

I've spent a little time with the '07 Spec B at my local dealership (Koby in Mobile, AL) and I spent a little time with the previous '06 he also had.

I LOVE the '07! It is a lot more car and it's a lot better. The si drive is a pretty cool feature, but it's really a better compliment for an automatic, IMHO. In fact, that's the only complaint I have about the Spec B; I want one with an automatic tranny. If I could have gotten an automatic my 05 Legacy would have been traded already!

The exterior color (diamond black or something like that) is BEAUTIFUL. It's kinda like the polar opposite of the "pearl" white on the Legacy.

Anyway, that's my $0.02.

sure the 06 is the limited production car, but I think I would go 07 hands down. I won't get into the reasons. I understand your want to merge the two

I like that you agree with me. Thanks. I was quoted very similer prices on both. That is why it is so hard to choose.

limited number doesn't mean a thing unless you are keeping the car for a very long time (all cars will lose value, bottom out, and then start to be collectors/valuable, which takes years). The one exception would be a car like the last supra that had such low numbers through its entire run, or certain exotics like ferrari. I'd focus on what features are important to you and not worry about limited numbers...

Well, when I buy a car I plan on having it for around ten years unless something happens to it. If I was not planning on keeping the car that long I would go with a cheaper car like a regular legacy. I thought that having 1 of 500 made car would be or make me special.

It's kinda cool, but it really doesn't do anything for the value of the car.

2007 is a better car, hands down.

The only thing I do not like about the 07 is the half blue seats. Brick Red was pretty nice. I drove an 06 and liked it.

I will buy one if they release a wagon. Maybe we will get a short run wagon next year.

Don't forget 2007's have split seats, electroluminescent gauges. The 07 Spec B. weighs more than an 07 Limited, EPA MPG is lower, and takes longer to hit 60mph (due to needing an extra shift).

If you have to get a Spec B., get an 07 hands down.

The 60/40 fold down rear seats in 07 are a nice plus.

Does 6 speed mean slower than a 5 speed at start because there is an extra shift? I am a noob with this kinda stuff but I thought 6 speed MT is better than 5. Which is better?

My understanding is that since you have 6 gears, you can accelerate through each gear faster as the gears are shorter. However as a result, you have to shift into 3rd gear to hit 60mph. But after 3rd gear, I believe the 6MT will accelerate faster through the top end gears. 5th gear in a 5MT is like a cruising gear, taller than the others. 5th gear in a 6MT should still be relatively short and allow you to accelerate quicker.

Does that about sum it up guys?

I posted something along the lines of the price difference over a regular GT isn't worth it if you want to buy a Spec B...but it's primarily because the extra money would go into parts to make the GT better than the Spec B in every way save for the little badge (well...maybe not...there's ebay ).

Anyway, 1 out of 500 or whatever the marketing says will mean jacksquat in 2 years, 5 years, or 10 years after ownership. It's not like having the spec B badge will actually decrease the depreciation on the car. Whatever youwant to think, it's still a Subaru. What matters is that you will be getting the stuff you want that will make that time of owneship enjoyable.

My advice is get the one that you can get for the best price off MSRP. Unless you are going to be driving the car very aggressively or take it to motorsports events, 5spd vs. 6spd would probably be insignificant when you're just driving around regularly. The seats, computer doohickey, etc...well consider if you will really be using them when you own the car; i.e. does your situation require the extra flexibility of a 60/40 seat? It's not really that convinient since most bulky objects would better fit in a wagon (or if you have a bigger car already), etc.. You'll probably get a better deal on an 06 Spec B, but if you REALLY need the extra stuff the 07 will add, and you can foot the difference...

yeah, it's because of the extra shift to 60mph.

does it matter?

No, it's still a fast car.

I'd go for the 07 B. Wait...I am going for the 07 B!

It has the better interior, 6MT, Torsen rear diff, VDC; besides SI-Drive. I keep forgetting if the 06 B has Nav too.

But, my point is, its basically the SAME price as the 06; with all these improvements. How can you go wrong?!

BUT, and this is the bigger but, what can you afford and how well can you play the sales game?

The '06 has a Nav too. I went and sat in it a week ago. Bleh on the interior. I like the silver exterior better of the'06 than that grey metallic of the '07 though.

Anyway this is what I did all week. I basically went to the subaru website and did an inventory check of all the dealerships in the state the carries the spec b '06 and '07. I found two that carried the '06 and two that carried the '07. I e-mailed for quotes of all four dealers and went with the cheaper '06 and '07. I then e-mailed the '06 dealer and '07 dealer and told them my dilema of not knowing which one to go with. The '06 dealer quoted me a better price but the '07 didn't budge. So I asked a sales guy at a dealer close to my work if he can do better and he did. All he has to do now is get the car.

The point of my story is I can get an '06 and the '07 at the same price so I am gonna go with the '07.

Thanks for all your comments. You all sure know how to convince me. A good point was also brought up. If I am gonna spend my time inside the car I better like the interior. I don't think that brick red would have ever grown on me. I will keep you guys posted

I hope it's not a search question but does anyone know exactly how the Legacy 6MT compares to the STi's? I take it there's no DCCD but would it be as "bulletproof" as the STi's?

its not, so no.

no front LSD, no DCCD and since they've changed up some of the gear ratios in there, I wouldn't be surprised if there is a lesser quality to the synchros too. I got some sort of inconsistant meshy-grinding noise on deceleration especially noticable in 2nd gear.

No, no launches in this car.

I've tried bringing it to the dealer...but guess what...it won't make the noise when I get there!

so...the mods to the tranny and shifter are on hold till I figure out whats up with the tranny.

Because the center and front diffs aren't the same, it's not the same tranny?

I guess so, since the front diff is all a part of it...I just wasn't thinking in those terms.
