News Sober driver gets detained, and clutch burned up by cop on tape at checkpoint

I searched a little bit, and couldn't find anything.

The article is short, but the transcript is probably too long to post.

Dude has vid camera on approaching checkpoint. The officer gets him out of his car, while another gets in and moves the car (apparently burning up the clutch in the process), then the guy argues with multiple cops about the situation until they let him go.

The article
http://www.informationliberation.com/?id=19139

The video
http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...82423715017278

I don't know where I stand on this one. Its almost as if he purposely pissed off the cop to cause the harassment for him to get on tape.

Quote:
Officer #1: How are you tonight sir?
Brett: Hi.
Officer #1: Can you put your window down for me.
(I roll the window ALL the way down.)
Officer #1: Do you have a driver's license and proof of insurance?
(I begin to get my information out of my wallet)
Officer #1: Where you headed tonight?
Brett: I don't wish to discuss my personal life with you officer.
Officer #1: Alright, come on up here.
(I start to move my car)
Officer #1: As a matter of fact, just stop your car right here and step out.
......... then the conversations go on and on for about 10 minutes.

Yeah, why else would you videotape yourself just driving along normally?

If he needs a new clutch from that, it must be made of paper.

exactly, also why can't the guy just say he's going to his friend's or what not; why does he have to get smart? Seems like he was kind of looking for trouble.

He is entirely in his legal rights to not tell him a damn thing. In fact, most lawyers will tell you to do just that, but he could have used a bit more tact. And, I can't believe hillbilly Bob hasn't driven a tractor or two on the farm and can't drive stick.

Yeah. Nothing happens after the initial convo except the second cop to drive the car stalls it.

It's pretty lame. The officer asked the kid where he was going and the kid said "I don't wish to discuss my personal life with you, officer." It's not like he had to give a detailed description or even a real answer. Something like "home" or "a friends house" would have been fine even if it weren't the truth. If you're a dick to a cop, they're going to be a dick to you.

Yeah, but he may have glazed it and/or the flywheel. Bad stuff happens then, like constant slippage. You could tell it was on an incline and he did ride the hell out of it.

Why can't the cops just deal with the fact that innocent citizens don't like to be questioned as to where they are going by random public officials. Seems like they were just on a power trip.

<-- Likes police. Hates bad police work. Wishes he could tell his children that it's always perfectly safe to look a cop in the eye and tell him the truth.

aod, I'm with you. I have been ordered out of my car by state police and my car has actually been driven for multiple miles. I was pulled over for a secondary violation ONLY, which was not right in itself. I was put in a cruiser, state popo's drove my car, and I was questioned at the local barracks. Thank God I knew enough about the law that they just let me go when I said I was going to call a lawyer in the morning.

How is that checkpoint constitutional? Just asking.

"Hey man...ha ha ha, I can't drive stick...." Had to be a "cadet" or some other tool observer or ride along-er.

Last but not least, I admire the kid. Takes guts to do **** like that. I've said for a long time I want to market a dome-light camera that will record 10-15 minutes of video/audio at the push of a button.

Why would someone cause themselves more grief than need be? Standing up to the man? Wow, you're such a rebel.

I am all for civil rights, fighting for them, causing havoc and chaos, the whole deal...but this is just stupid...it wastes his time and the cops time. Dumbass.

IMO it's none of the cop's business where he's going. The checkpoint was probably for DUI. Since he wasn't under the influence, the cop should have let him go and be done with it. I've told cops somewhat similar things, and they can't do crap to you.

They can waste your time and drunk test you. If they REALLY wanted to be a dick they could have checked his car for "questionable" mods or the such.

People, actually watch the video and know your rites before you make retarded comments. It’s difficult to hear the conversation, but it is important to listen.

I think it is funny that they don't even notice the camera recording.
