Default Gillman Bellaire

I had a coupon for a free oil change from Gillman Subaru. I called ahead to make an appointment and made sure it was OK to bring my own oil.

Before getting to the oil the mechanic checked my tires with one of those crusty old brass air gauges that're built into the shop air chuck. He claimed my front tires were at 40psi (they weren't) and he aired them all down to ~29psi on all four corners before I could stop him. The dealership never asked for permission to screw with my tires. Had I not been watching the mechanic I might not have noticed until I was driving home.

The mechanic, a big fellow with a gold tooth, chewed me out for asking him to stop fiddling with my tire pressure. I asked him to leave the tires alone until after the oil change and then reset the pressure using a proper gauge. He chewed me out. He threatened me. Then he stormed off in search of reinforcements.

I flagged down one of the service counter guys. He agreed to let me run an air hose out to the parking lot to fix my tires afterwards bubba was done with my car on the lift. That was very cool of him to help out.

Meanwhile, gold tooth mechanic stormed back into the garage and told me to get out. Service counter man reminded the mechanic that customers are allowed to watch. The mechanic says "You must be ****ed up in the head. What bidness you got tellin me how to do my job?"

Attention Gillman mechanics: "oil change" does not mean "screw with my tires".

While fixing my tire pressure I checked how many empty oil jugs were left over. I had brougt a case of 6 and was expecting to find 4 empties and one with 0.2 quarts left. (My car takes 4.8 quarts).

There were 4 empties and one with over half a quart left. Checking the dispstick confirmed that I was low! Bubba had sent me out the door with about 4.4 quarts in a motor that's supposed to take 4.8.

The general sales manager of the dealership tried to be accomodating yet he claimed to say there wasn't much he could do about the service department. Bull****. The sales department brings $$$ to the dealership and ought to have the authority to lay the smack down on a ****ty service department.

The service department manager didn't apologize for letting the mechanic screw with my tire pressure, nor did he seem terribly concerned that they were about to send me out the door with less than the proper amount of oil. His attitude was like "yes, we suck, now just go away before we lose any more customers." ****head.

It's so infuriating that a FREE COUPON for service that I'd normally do myself--service from the OFFICIAL DEALERSHIP, even--would have damaged my car in several ways had I not caught them in the act.

You never said what your tire pressure was after "bubba" adjusted your tires, was this because you didn't use a gauge? there is still lots of oil left in the engine after it is drained, and after I am confident that you didn't check your tires with a gauge, and you think that an oil change requires the capacity of oil, I don't think you checked the oil right.

Kartoffel - I am a service advisor for a Honda dealership where I live. First - checking tire psi is standard with every oil change, customers get pissed when we don't even if they look properly inflated. Second - sales doesn't make **** for the dealership - service does. There are 7 advisors at my dealership we all take in about $1,000,000 dollars a year parts and labor. While it's not all profit a good portion is, how much do you think sales takes in? Nowhere near that, I know. Third - you're right about the oil being low but what can you do - most oil change mechanics are the lowest level guys at the dealership which is why you should do your own oil changes and just bring the car in for maintenances. Fourth - calm down - it would piss me off too but when customers come at us pissed we feel like telling you to **** off - if you approached it with a level head I would have been willing to do whatever it took to make you happy - when you're a prick I wanna go **** your car up even more. Remember they are people too and they are there to help but not if you're a dick.

I don't like how Gillman Subaru does business. I've found a lack of professionalism all around at that place. That's why even though Gillman is about 4 miles from my house, I drive across town and give West Houston Subaru my money. I even bought my WRX from them. It's a night and day difference!

i agree taht gillman might not be the best, west houston has a good inventory but man they have one arrogant ass finance manager. i was with my mom, we negotiated on a wrx for 26,400 drive out, after the sales person got the price approved, the finance manager tried to pull a fast one by giving us a wrx with 400 miles and less options. then he says "if your going to play hard, we are going to play hard. if you leave this deal won't be here tomorrow" so my mom says "that means we can't come here anymore?" and he goes "well you can but you won't get this price." yeah dumb jackasses get paid too much for punching numbers into a computer. at gillman i was able to get a nice deal on a better equipped wrx. service at gillman kinda sucks also, had my car in for some bumper work and was dissappointed by all the swirls in the clear coat due to all the buffing of the imperfections.

Default Another Gillman Experience

I was looking for a Sedona Red Pearl WRX sedan in 12/01. Gillman had one on the lot so I took a look. Was in my '93 RX-7 at the time. They asked if they could "take a look" at my RX-7 for trade-in value. Then as I'm looking at the WRX, I hear my 7 ROARING , turn to see the salesman hanging the tail out in the rain, in moderate traffic. As I run out to try and stop the idiot I hear him bounce off the rev limiter in 1st and 2nd, quickly fading out of view in the distance. Did I mention he did not give the car any warm-up period? Never authorized Gillman to drive the car. Let the sales manager have it, made sure he knew why I would never buy from his dealership.

Based on this experience I wouldn't trust Gillman when they're trying to sell you any car with more than 10 miles on it. These guys just don't know how to treat vehicles properly. Went to West Houston Subaru and found a much more professional and courteous staff, bought the car that night.

BTW, West Houston's finance manager can be a pain, but it's his job and he plays the game well. Was able to get him off sticker but it took quite a while (2-3 hrs) and several rounds of negotiation. It's the typical car buyer hassle, and this guy was very good at the game. Just be patient and play the game.

Default Gillman Subaru in Houston

I went by Gillman Subaru off 59 and the toll road. They ahd just gotten four of the 2004 WRXs in that day. I spoke with TJ and he was real cool. He knew what he was talking about and didn't BS me on it. He had an imediate answer for all of my questions. After he let me take the new candy red '04 WRX for a test run we talked about mods and he told me that he could get me STi parts cheap through the dealership. I was really surprised how mod friendly they were out there. TJ talked with me about their service and warranty work. Well after at least an hour and a half I am all for Gillman Subaru and TJ is the man.

Thanx again for the test drive TJ

I also have liked the service at Gillman North. However, I was just dealing with them for the purchase of a Legacy wagon for my wife and they were horrible!! I even had the Subaru VIP program and they still tried to shaft me on options. Got a much better deal thru Billy and Adam at West Houston. This is the second Subie I have bought through them, and definitely has been the best car buying experience I have had. WHS is the only dealership I have not walked out of feeling totally slimed upon.

BD

PS: The salesman at Gillman North did not even appear to know who the people were in the service dept!!!

BD, while I have no exp with Gilman sales, I do with WHS. It was great. It's service after the sale and another issue that is the problem for me right now.

Thumbs up Gillman Subaru is awsome!

This is the first time posting on this forum. Since this is a dealership forum I am going to say thanks to the guys at Gillman! I wasnt even interested in buying a subaru! My son told me about this really fast subaru called a wrx, so I decided to go out and see what it looked like! Well the first thing that caught my eye about the dealership was this flashy race car sitting in front of the lot! It had huge off roading tires, extra night lights and brite gold wheels? It looked like a tank! Well this salemans named Chris comes up to me and starts talking to me about this race car. Telling me how the car is almost 90% stock and uses factory subaru parts Then goes on and tells me that it runs 100+ mile races off road Well he gets the key and turns on the car! That car was loud! I didnt know subarus motors were flat fours! Well after chatting about this guys race car, he shows me this car called the STI My mouth droped when I saw this car! It was so different then any car on the market! Well Chris takes me back into the dealership and shows me a couple of rally videos After watching almost bone stock stis running around on a rally course" I want one now!" Well Chris got permission to let me take the car for a test drive! Wow is all I have to say! I was so set on buyin that car that minute! I talked to the manager Naser "he was too pushy!" He acked like any typical salesperson! You could just tell he was selling subarus because he had too! Well he pissed me off and I just decided to go home and think about it! Well I decide to check out the other dealerships in houston. I went to westhouston and you could just tell they werent into the cars! The salesman I talked to hardly knew anything about the car! They didnt even sponsor any race cars! The only reason I came back to Gillman was because of the treatment I got from the salesman! Plus the dealership sponsored and believed in their own products! If your going to buy a subaru I would buy it from Chris down at Gillman! Hes not pushy and a down to earth kind of guy! Plus if your nice he might let you ride in his rally car I have had my STI for some time now and I just love it! I even got the rally bug! I am going to watch Rally of Germany in 2004! The only place to buy a subaru is Gillman! "just watch out for their managers!"

By finance manager, are we referring to Adam? I had a wonderful buying experience with him. I bought my WRX in August of 2002, and it got it for about ~$1500 below sticker price. I can't say that I'm too happy with the service department though.

Well, guys, see why I didn't even like working for Gillman!! Much less buy my car from them!!! And I sure as hell ain't gunna give the bastards my money to do any kind of service!! Gillman is where all the screw ups go to sell and service cars. Sorta like Bill Heard Chevy. West Houston and Mc Ree are the best dealers I have ever dealt with. Period. Finance Managers go to school to be jerkoffs. You think they're bad acting towards you??? Try being a saleman and handing him/her a new car deal with a paper missing or filled out wrong!!! Be patient with these people and you will get what you want.

I know that there are posts like this, but none really up to date. What are new STi's going for these days straight out of the dealership? I'm trying to find a white one, which is apparently impossible to find for a good price.

Default Try gillman north, houston tx

They have had a white with gold wheels in the showroom for over 6 months and would sell for right over invoice if not lower. Its mint. I just wasn't looking for white.

If you are out of town, the dealership is very close to IAH airport, one of the largest in the world, and a continental hub.

good luck
