Default Raw Fuel Smell

My car has a pretty bad raw fuel smell every now and then in this cold spell we are having. I did a search and found the HUGE thread about the 02 WRX's having this problem.

Is there anyone on here who has had this problem and what did they do to fix it? Did you take it to Continental, Specialized, or fix it yourself?

Thanks.

Do a search on NASIOC. There are several threads involving this problem. Apparently, there are some rubber fuel line connectors on the front top of the engine that tend to leak in cold weather on 02/03 wrx's.

You can see the ~2 inch rubber line bettween the hard lines by looking strait down (with flashlight) bettween the passenger side intake mainifold runners.

I gave the upright one a couple additional turns and pushed the upside down one off of where it was seated on the tube. It has been almost fume free since.

I just need to get at the upside down clamp which is the one that is needs some help. (it shouldnt have been able to be rotated although it helped) Aparently the flex joint tubing is the kind that expands in cold weather.

Although if you have teh moneys just take it to conti and have it all sorted out.

Word of caution for anyone calling mavrik at continental.

When I called him about the fuel smell I also told him I had some 20% off coupons for other services there. He put on his salesman hat and started using these fancy words like "maintenance", "fluid changes", and "timing belts".

I tried to tell him that my car only has a little over 100,000 miles and that the performance/fuel mileage has only dropped about 10-15%. After much debating he somehow talked me into these "maintenance", "fluid changes", and "timing belts".

He even tried to make it seem OK by taking items off the maintenance service and lowering the price since I didnt need them done. And then how if I drop it off in the morning, it should be done by the afternoon. He's crafty

Anyhow, I will be dropping the car off on Monday for a tuesday appointment. I will keep everyone posted.

crappy part was after the new belt was installed car had bent valves and only ran on 2 cylinders... so moral of the story is maintence is no b.s....
