man i changed my oil today and there was like 5 or 6 chunks of blue silicone in the filter, so i went to my subaru dealer and showed them the filter and he said "oh no its not a problem, dont worry about it, just keep an eye on it" i wonder how much more is in the motor right now i wonder where it is coming from. i change my oil every 3000km and have never seen this before its really weird. any one else had this before? i hope it dosent clog up something and screw a bearing or something.

That can easily clog up an oil passage. Definetly get them to pull the engine and check and settle for nothing less!

weird...make sure the dealer documents what you found....it could mean the differnce in a warranty engine in the near future or not..
the oil pan is sealed with silicoln, but I dont think big chunks can make it into the oil pump then to the filter....grrrr wierd... blue silicoln....me thinking... Jay McDade Auto Tech--Lincoln/Mercury/Jaguar soon to be subaru, 9 days and counting www.hometown.aol.com/impreza25rs2000 |

the dealer prolly won't pull your motor..i am amazed the pieces made it past the oil pump screen...and you filter is working...so it won't get into the bearings. Jeremy |

I've seen this before. Did someone re-seal your Oil Pump at some time? Subaru uses grey sealer, not blue. If too much sealer is used on the Oil Pump it goes directly to the Filter and is trapped in the Filter intake (outer ring).
I would take pictures and get acknowledgement from the dealer that they saw it. If the dealer did the Oil Pump work you might want to talk to the SOA rep too. If there was only a few pieces of sealer in the Filter you don't have anything to worry about. |

Anyways, the only sealer that I know of that is blue my friend used to install his intake manifold something called RTV or something like that, it was blue silicone stuff used to create instant gaskets, kinda like gaskets in a tube. -Jason |

What in gods name...that looks like Blue RTV...but there is NO reason for it to be in the oil...the better quesiton is where did it come from?? You've NEVEr had any motor work done??

Ghostrider your using a canadian tire oilfilter right? i use to use that same type of filter too because it siad on the box it was made for synthetic oil and all. later i found out it is made by fram. even uses the same part number as fram. the oilfilter inside is really poorly made. cardboard endcaps and such. it wouldn't suprise me if the blue RTV came out of the filter itself.

i'm saying it could have come from the oil filter. if you still have it might be worth it to cut it open. why knows. that might just be it.
