Sounds like a burned out blower motor resistor, it's a fairly cheap and easily replaced part.

On the newer cars it's located in the HVAC housing, down by where the fan is. Probably in a similar location on yours, it's placed there so it's in the airflow for cooling as the resistor element generates a lot of heat.
Look for a second electrical plug near where the fan plugs in, if it's attached to a small module that screws into the housing that's it. |

Yeah, those resistor failures can be common, especially with higher mileage cars. All sorts of crap can get into them despite being a surrounded by a protective cage.

Not trying to hijack this thread, but I have a similar problem. I don't have any fan most of the time. Every once in a while I get all 4 speeds available. I tried replacing the resistor and it didn't fix the problem. Any thoughts?
Neo, Not sure if your car uses the same part number, but I have a brand new resistor for sale now. My car is a 98. Let me know if you want it. Todd |

I had the same problem and found out it was a bad blower motor relay. It was intermittent on all speeds.

it applies to ANY car that has a multi-speed blower made in the last 30 years. Some cars have multiple combinations of resistor packs, so it is possible to have speeds 2 and 4.
