Default 4EAT question

I have a 4eat in my 97 LGT turbo. It puts out about 160 ft lbs of torque to the wheels. When cruising at 70 in 4th gear, I step on it, the boost comes on, but instead of it shifting down to third, it just kinda slips with the RPM's going up but the car isn't going any faster. If I accelerate lightly in 4th it will accelerate without slipping, but as soon as I put more load on it, it just starts to slip. I can shift it down to third and get on it as hard as I want and it doesn't slip. Actually it works great in 1st - 3rd. The tranny has 105,xxx miles on it, and I flushed it out and replaced the filter and also running Royal Purple fluid. Is my tranny shot, or is this normal or is it just too much power for the overdrive gear or what? Any thoughts on this would be great!

royal purple is a no-no in subarus from what I've heard, but that was also gear oil, not ATF.

I used Royal Purple, because that was what RalliTEK in Portland recommended. One of the guys that works there has a 4eat in his GC impreza wich is running some big turbo power, and he runs Royal Purple with a tranny cooler. He said after running the synthetic and cooler, his tranny has lasted a lot longer than his first two combined. He also has a stall converter and valve body upgrade.
