Default Head Gasket - ruined engine? - 7k!?

Took my 2000 RS in for a leaky head gasket.
They tried some magic sealant, no dice.

Took the engine apart and are now telling me I need a new block and other things.

7k is the estimate.

Does that sound right?

Anyone know of Colorado Subie specialist that could maybe handle this for me?

grey, or is it gray?

Sounds like you might want to consider a few options:

1) get a second opinion
2) junking the car
3) swapping the engine for a turbo charged WRX motor...

7K sounds high, even if you needed a long block.

Did you buy this car new/used?
Was the car taken in for the headgasket campaign(or whatever it was called)?
How many miles are on the car now?
