likely it does not.

most 2002 models did not come with the filter

the housing for the filter is located up and behind the glove box assy

My 2002 WRX wagon does indeed have cabin air filter, I pulled it this afternoon to inspect it. It has part#72880FE000 stamped on it which seems to cross reference to G3210FE100. It's easily located by removing the glove compartment and opening a little panel. After 5 years and 54k miles it's extremely icky and is overdue for replacement.

The real shocker is that it's about $32 on subarugenuineparts.com! For less than a square foot of cardboard and paper! I suppose this is a bargain since it lists for $43 elsewhere.

The filter was an option, all late Imprezas have the housing for it but may not have the actual filter.
You don't have to buy the OEM filter, it's possible to make your own for less $. See this thread-

Yeah, the OEM filters are a huge ripoff. I made some replacements by cutting up an old furnace filter and they work just fine.

Eureka!

I called WIX and they are making a direct replacement, part number 24485. It is listed on their website but unfortunately it won't be available for a few months. I'm just going to vacuum out my current filter and get the WIX when it comes out.

I ordered one from Advance Auto on the 4th. It was a vendor-ship item so I'm still waiting on it. $30.94 (+tax) and free shipping.

The filter is there is 2006 models; I bought a bare bones model so it's not a WRX or STI adder in my case. There is no indication that they added the filter as a dealer installed option.

see above... you REALLY don't need to spent more then $5 to put a new filter in there. go to your local big box hardware store or even walmart and just get whatever decent furnace filter is cheapest. chop it up until it fits in there.

My '02 came with the filter. I bought some spares from SubieGal -- come to think of it, I'm probably due to replace it. After that, I'll probably go with the cheapo stuff.

Sorry about bumping an old thread.

I just bought a Wix cabin filter for my 2002 WRX from Amazon for $18. It has a non chemical treatment called Bioshield 75 which is supposed to prevent the growth of bacteria, mold, mildew and yeast.
