Default WTT: 95-97 aftermarket fiberglass grille for 98 grille

I ordered a grille for my 98 Legacy after hitting a deer, and unfortunately it's for the slightly older legacy. There's a half inch gap under it on my bumper, so I'm looking for someone who needs this grille, has the grille I need, or wants to trade. Here's a link to the grille I got:

Hmm... I have a '96 "L" that doesnt have a bumper indentation for the grille, that your grille will likely fit. I am not sure what this particular grille looks like mounted on a Legacy though.

From the looks of the ebay auction, they are looking to get ~ $90 to $110 (USD) for this particular grille (including the shipping costs). I am not sure what you paid, but I suspect you would like something similar for your grille ?

I would want to paint the grille to match my car (Ruby Mica Metallic red colour). While I dont think I want to spent a whole lot for this, I am vaguely interested/curious what the car looks like with the grille. Do you have photos ?

I do not have a stock '97 - '99 Legacy Grille that I am prepared to give up, although these are easy enough to get from a junk yard or an "automotive recycling specialist". There are a few folks on this board who likely have an extra grille for you.

If I am not interested, I am sure there may be a few other '95-'96 Legacy owners will likely snap this up.

Where are you located ?

I had this same thing happen to me. I got an JDM grill of ebay, and it was too short. I have the same gap you are talking about. I wish someone would chime in and clarify what the difference is. Is it year specific, or body style, like L or GT or sedan vs. wagon? I also have grill that I would be willing to trade or sell.

For the US, the '95MY legacies and outback had a smaller bumper, and no indentation in the top so they have a smaller grille. For the '96-'99MY Legacy and outback grille, the front bumper cover was designed with an indentation in the top to accomodate a taller grille.

So, in short: USDM '95 = Shorter grille.
USDM '96-'99 = Taller grille.

GT, L, Sedan, or wagon had no bearing on the size of the grille.

the other thing is that for some wierd reason, the JDM BG front bumpers are just a lot taller in that center section than the USDM ones are. so even if you do get the correct year, a JDM grill is just not going to line up with a USDM bumper correctly anyway you try it. the best option is to either get the JDM front bumper, or you can just using some weather stripping to help fill in that gap.

or you can be like me and just run it with the gap and not care about it!

Yeah I'm like you, I'm rockin the large gap! Because I don't have another grill. I really doesn't bother me unless someone else points it out. If I could find one that fits better at the right price, I would probably change it.

man, I was looking at buying that grill for my 98 Outback as well, but, since it won't "fit", I'm glad I didn't. Thanx for letting us know.

Oddly enough, i'm running the tall grille with the stock '95USDM bumper. I rear-ended someone a few years back, so it bent the front of the frame slightly, enough to lower the bumper supports and get juuust enough clearence. Unfortunately, now there is a half inch gap under both my headlights.

That's not quite right. The 96 L Legacy has the shorter grille. As well as the 96 brighton.

the '96 GT should have the short grille as well. the GT wagon that i pulled the side skirts and rear lip off of was a '96, and it had the short grill and early front bumper.

For the guys with OB's, especially in dark colors, the gap isnt't hat bad. My Morettes push it out and up a hair, too. Coupla pics.

You can kind of see the gap below, but it's not as noticeable on the two-tone cars.

Excuse the dirt, car hasn't been driven for over a month while waiting for a new motor.

So I can get any BG5 JDM grill? That would be great. For some reason I though that I will have clearance issues.

Unless you've changed your bumper, you will have the short grille.

But there are some tall JDM grilles. I have no idea what models got what, but you can usually tell by looking at the grille whether it's tall or not.

If the bottom of your lights is collinear to the bottom of the grill you have a short grill. If the bottom of the grill is lower than the bottom of your lights, you have a tall grill. As was said 95-96 is short, 97-99 is tall.
