Some other Suby owner stopped by with a camera and snapped some picts... wonder if he's on here? My camera phone is 4 years old (i.e. it sucks).

Pre-emptive "what happened":

This was at a yellow light. It's possible I blew through just at the red but I'm pretty sure I made it. Doesn't really matter either way though i guess as the officer said that light color is irrelevant- the other guy was cited as he didn't see me at all- just "BOOM... WTF?". I feel bad for him because he was just making a quick trip to the store and this happens; and it was a relatively simple mistake too.

Crossing my fingers, hoping insurance goes smoothly on this one- the car looked totaled to me and, at first glance I'm not finding many '04 WRX's for sale... I'm also not sure how Allstate handles aftermarket parts on the car, especially if they're damaged, which I'm sure the 2 rear struts are; swaybar may well be too. That -and the Scoobysport muffler isn't exactly easy to get so I'm hoping that was uninjured.

f that... my car is totalled due to people not caring what color the light is!

the guy who hit me said he was pretty sure his light was green...yet none of the other traffic had moved and 10 witnesses said his was red for a while!

Believe it or not, if you were cruising through the intersection just as it turned red and a person turns left into you from the opposite left-hand turn lane it is their fault according to state law. If you are in the left hand turn lane you are required to wait until the intersection is clear before engaging into your turn...even if someone is running a red. So, basically if you're ready to make a left you need to get out past the intersection lines and if the light is turning wait until you feel everyone is coming to a safe stop before proceding. Even if the other light is green. It is now their job to wait for you to clear the intersection before going. Hope that babble makes sense.

yup anytime your breaking another cars right of way... i had that happen to me in my 5.0 and old lady was making a left i jumped on it to beat the light... the officer said that it didnt matter how fast i was going she broke in to my line of driving... i thought i was gonna get it... she said that she didnt see me coming and then the officer asked if i was speeding "chris, were you speeding? (he was shaking his head side to side as if to tell me to say NO)" i told him that i wasnt. then the old lady said "he was speeding i saw him" thats when the officer and i looked at eachother and i told him "didnt she just say she didnt see me?" thats when the old ladies daughter told her mom not to say anything more just let the insurance companies handle it.
thats when the cop said it didnt matter how fast i was going..

insurance company should cover everything in the stock location of the vehicle (ex)The stock exhaust from a dealer is probably more than the aftermarket exhaust. All you have to do is find the right body shop that will buy your aftermarket parts instead of stock...I just had this happen my airbag deployed and i didn`t want to go with stock sw so they gave me the cash for sw with airbag and i purchased nrg wheel at a fraction of the price and pocketed the rest... if you would like to tt the body shop who did this for me pm me for their #

Damn... the more I think about this, the luckier I feel- I just remembered the driver's side mirror was clipped and the front door panel just barely got grazed. If we had made contact a fraction of a second sooner, the truck would have had a pretty good grip on the famous Subaru B-pillar...

I'm not feeling to well right now- I had a choice between renting a PT Cruiser (which I got condemned with last time- swore it wouldn't happen again) and an '07 Tahoe. I took the 'hoe but I'm not liking this one bit. I want my car back.

And Allstate's having the car looked at either today or tomorrow- they'll let me know then what they're going to do with it. Maybe I'll be able to get pictures here soon.

Yeah, not as bad as I originally feared, structurally speaking; but there's more serious body damage than I thought there would be. Of course, if they do repair it, I'm ging to be stuck with the thought of "did it cause any trauma to the drivetrain?", which I doubt the shop (or insurance) will consider. That impact at the curb couldn't have been good for the diff or tranny.

That said, a big part of me still really wants them to fix her.

The color of the light does matter...BUT, technically if it was green as grass or bright red...you both went through it. If he was already in the intersection waiting, and you blew the red that may change it. My guess is that you both were just going for it thus negating eachother on that. That is the the likely reason the officer said the color of the light "does not matter." The other driver was probably cited for 'failure to yield.' Our traffic laws (and traffic safety) depend heavily on the principal of 'right of way.'

If you had T-boned him, the citation outcome would prolly have been opposite...but I dunno.

Push for a total...not worth the sentimental value in the long run. My guess is that they will want to fix it. Know that you can legally take it to any body shop you want. If they do fix it, make sure it is a shop that does good work.

With those creases in the roof section and the extent of the damage, I'm saying it's totalled, sorry for your loss, I know how it feels. Good luck with your nex

I think they probably would have split the blame- bear in mind, he had only been moving for probably less than a second; the instant the light turned yellow, I made the determination that I could make it (I remember thinking about stopping but I was close enough that it would have been pretty hard braking to do so). Once I saw him start moving, I was no longer paying attention to the light- which is why I can't say for certain what color it was when I entered; I know I swerved but I don't know if I got on the brakes at all- if I did, I may well have entered on red but I think that's the reason the law swung my way... it wasn't a blatant run and if the other driver had seen me, he could have stopped in time.
