Default 3 Subies tuned @ Topspeed last Friday

Well here goes:

My buddy has a 2004 STI with Injen intake and a Mammi side exit exhaust with nothing but a resonator on the exhaust.
Dynoed somewhere between 325 330 hp and got almost 350 tq.
Second pull netted 350 hp and 390 tq and Doug was like until we found out the side exhaust was blowing on the temp. box and the computer thought it was 130 degrees out.....lol

Other buddy with 2004 WRX.
Mods are:
VF34
Perrin turbo inlet tube, fuel rails, up-pipe
AEM intake
STI TMIC
NGK 1 step colder iridiums
Walbro 342 fuel pump
RS*R turbo back exhaust

284 hp and I think 267 tq boosting 1.2 ish bar.

Me 2004 WRX
Mods are
Deadbolt TD05h 18g
Perrin FMIC, intake, turbo inlet, downpipe, EBCS
ERZ up pipe
B&B catback
820cc modded injectors
342 Walbro fuel pump
NGK 1 step colder iridiums

I was a little disappointed as I was hoping 300 hp or so.
288 hp 269 tq

Doug was having issues with my car. I don't know the issue but I threw a Cylinder 1 misfire after the tune. I did notice that one of my plugs had a bent electrode on it but I had no choice but to install them. I think the spark plug is the culprit and I also have a noticable up pipe to manifold leak.

I order the NGK BPR7E Copper plugs today and ordered the new gasket for the up pipe. After doing so you think I will be able to hit 300+? You think that is the problem with my car?

Oh yeah Doug if you read this can you post the dyno charts for me? Thanks.

try the denso iridium, and whos to say that a random misfire didnt cause the plug to foul.. i think you might be jumping to conclusions, if all plugs werent in the same condition...

All plugs were brand new the day before but like I said one of them the electrode thingy was bent and possibly even broken a little but it still fired.

All 3 were using EcuTek and the Sti is bone stock minus intake/exhaust. I think it had more like 342 TQ. Doug has the dyno charts which we didn't get printouts of.

Lets say it was just a random misfire. I can't understand why the heck I only got 288 hp. Doug said something about my car not liking timing too much. I think my car is running 21 degress where the VF34 ones loves 28 degrees I don't want to have to rely on methanol/alcohol injection to get 300 hp. I want 300 hp and that was why I got my setup. I have read of people with a little less or the same setup getting 310 hp.

not suppose to go to the dyno tune w/o out your car running 100%. IE good plugs no leaks..

I believe clark made like a faq on what to do before going toget a dyno tune..: new plugs, fuel filter, no leaks,; clean air filter ... etc

fix the leak and take it back! You want to hit that magic 300 right?

I'd be a little upset too if my friend with a vf34 was putting down similar number to your 18g w/ fmic. Hopefully you get it all straightened out because I figured the 18g should be putting up a bigger margin in power. I'm sure race gas numbers will show a bigger difference but not until your car is running right.

I know that Bambooi. Kinda hard when stuff doesn't show up on time, when you don't have much time to work on things, and you have to do all the stuff by yourself for the most part. Also there was no way I could have been driving the car till the stuff was fixed as Doug gave me an off the shelf map that was so frigging rich I am surprised it made it there with the boost leak I had which was my dumb mistake. Stuff will be fixed as the new plugs have been ordered and a new up pipe gasket is on its way.

Yeah Doug you will be seeing me again....what was it you said my car was? Oh yeah a Devil's Child

Where are those graphs?

yea doug said there was more left in my tune but the waste gate spring was week and he could not get it over 17 pounds and it would taper to 14 by redline he said with the way it liked timing it needed 18.5 taperin to 16 to 16.5 so i will find a stronger waste gate actuater and try it again

I dunno if it'll be NASTY....dang car is a temperamental b**#&. I just can't see a leaking up-pipe holding me back that much and affecting the timing. The spark plug obviously didn't misfire on the dyno but who knows with that one having a bent electrode on it. One way to find out.

Maybe Doug can chime in and explain some of it more to me. I will be sending this to him because I know he was tired Friday and we were too so nothing was clear. I gotta get answers before moving on.

Which 18g is it, Front side, back side etc.. Those are pretty normal numbers for an 18g.

P.S. Subarus love race gas.

It is the Deadbolt TD05h 18g. Normal numbers? Then why are so many people getting 300+ on the same mods as me then if that is normal. I just think it is sad when my buddy has a cheaper setup pushing almost the same power.

I think you are also forgetting about the uppipe leak you had which the guys at TopSpeed told us about while we were down there for NOPI.

Bad plugs+improper exhaust feed=disappointing power output.

just spring the waste gate actuator. Do a search. It will hold boost after you spring it.

We'll even though it works it still looks ghetto. As a business trying to get up and doing I am against darkside doing that as a lot of people look at that and see it as poor 'cheap' fix. Just coming from a business perspective and seeing other guys doing something similar and having potential customers look at it and go ***? Way simple to just get an upgraded actuator to replace it if one exists.

I know I have that uppipe leak. My plan is to fix all the leaks (already ordered the gaskets), install new copper BFK7E plugs (and don't worry about that flimsy electrode bending and breaking), and then try again. Then if I still can't get 300+ then SMC water injection will be ordered.

Deadbolt you seem to know a little about tuning. Any idea why one car likes timing so much more than the other when both cars filled up at the the tank with the same gas? Same year models as well. Doug was saying darksidewrx's car liked 28 degrees where mine would only do 21 degrees. I am thinking ignition has something to do with it in some way that I am not understanding.
