Question 2000 Impreza - Stuck Door Locks in the Cold?

Here in Austin, the sleet is now beginning to freeze with temp just now dropped to 32 (at 1 PM). So, I discover I cannot unlock either side of this 2000 Impreza RS.

There was nothing frozen on the outside of the lock, although there is ice on top of the car. I've never had a lock problem before, even when temp was in lower twenties overnite. It does not have a remote entry lock/Key; The key simply will not turn at all. I stopped short on use of brute force pressure to turn the key before I either bent the key or snapped something inside.

In other posts people seem to have problem with remote-entry keys, but this is not one of those; It also is afflicting both sides. So, Is there some sort of solenoid involved in this operation that may have somehow gotten wet and frozen?. Since it effects both sides and I've had no problems before (and 32 is hardly unusual), it implies something deep, dark, compex, and expensive (?)

Any Thoughts or suggestions? How would I even get into the thing if I wanted to be able to drive it the bucks-up dealership for some exotic repair?

that happened to me a lot when I was living in NY. Some water probably got inside the locks and froze things up. They sell "lock de-icer" in little aerosol cans, but it may be hard to find them at stores in TX...

Sometimes if I was really stuck I'd get a can of WD40, stick the red sprayer thing inside the lock and spray that around a bit. Sometimes that would help, or at least dry it out so it wouldn't freeze again. If that doesn't work, aiming a hair dryer at the lock for awhile might help too.... doesn't sound like anything major though

In the past, I have taken a lighter, heat up the key and then stick it into the door and it works almost everytime. May take more then one attempt.

If you can get a hair dryer up to it, that has worked for me on all kinds of cars in the past.
