Any 04+ RS owners have a WRX exhaust?

it is the 02-04 muffler on an NA engine that does it, something about the muffler that makes a chirping sound when you start up and turn off the car.

Mine does it when you rev too. I guess it's the dual tip? Anyone have a STi muffler on their RS?

Sorry to hijack the thread, but can you guys can notice any power gains from a WRX or STI exhaust on a 04+ RS?
I've been thinking about doing it on my 2005 RS, but I've been told it only changes the sound, not the power.

I noticed a tiny power. But no reason to change.

My RS exhaust got ripped off by a huge speed hump that was freshly install and about 2 foot high... no lie.

no gains... I had the axleback off a 06 wrx.. no chirp.. get an 05+ wrx muffler and you will be fine. if you can get a cheap STi one.. fine.. its not worth tons more.. it's really just a look on our car.

I have the full WRX cat back...

isn't the piping size on WRX different than a STi?

midpipe on the wrx and sti are the same size, the axle back section is different size, but not too much. Also, yes it is the dual tip that makes the chirp. All sti and 05+ wrx will not make that noise.

Not an 04 RS but I have an 02 WRX midpipe and axleback. The chirps mostly happen when coming down below 1000 RPM's:

did you install it yet? because the wrx full catback will not fit right on your car. the exhaust is shorter because of the turbo setup.. I seriously do not think it is worth it to pay if you have to.. to get a wrx exhaust custom fit to your car. if you can do it yourself.. that is a different story. but you must add pipe and rotate the the flange for the cat section..

not a big deal, it is 2 inches of pipe. any local exhaust shop can do it for you for not a whole lot of money

Ya, the WRX catback is already on. My exhaust got ripped off, was way loud. Stopped by local Subaru performance shop, paid $60 for a full used one, local exhaust shop threw it on for $50. just welded a pipe on.

What does the 05+ WRX muffler look like? Why would (if it's still dual tip) not chirp and this one chirp?

Does the STi muffler line up to the WRX mid-section, too?

I really need to fix it, mine is 10x louder and distinct more often than the guy that posted that video.

05+ muffler has larger single tip, I have an 06 WRX catback on my 06 2.5i. And yes, STI axle back flange will line up with WRX mid.

i have a 3' exhaust on my rs. I noticed a difference. no low end and massive high end. backpressure, who needs backpressure!

yea the newer wrx mufflers have a 3.5 inch chrome rolled tip and the STi is 4 inch chromed and it says STI etched in the side. There is not a huge difference between the 06 wrx and the 06 Sti muffler.


and 3" exhaust is bad news on a RS.. our cars arent top end cars.. why would you want to loose what the car does best.. and go through the hassle of putting on a aftermarket wrx exhaust when there are a TON of good RS ones? I doubt your car is much better in the top end at all.. it prob just feels like it actually has an engine after bogging down under 3K or so

I still have stock cats and a stock header and my engine is a 2.2 SOHC with single port heads. That all adds up to quieter and the single port heads probably diminish the boxer rumble some.
