I checked the FAQ threads, but how much oil should an 05' WRX have? And when I fill the oil filter, should I count that oil as part of theamount of oil to put in?

Usually there is a slightly different amount quoted with or without a filter change. However, IMHO these are guidelines and the dipstick is the real decision maker. My strategy is to put 4 qts in while car's on ramps (I use them to make the oil change easier). Then I back it down and run the engine for a minute, then shut it off and go do something else. A while later I'll check the oil and top it up based on dispstick readings.

EDITED for clarity: you should buy 5 qts for an oil change, but you won't need to use all of the 5th qt.

4.8 qts including the filter to be on the upper level.
3.7 qts including the filter to be on the lower level.

I think 4.2 qts excluding the filter. But who isn't gonna change their filter?

So yes, 4 qts is a good starting point. Add more if necessary.

thanks for clearing that one up. I went to the store and didn't know how much I should get. So I just got a six pack to be on the safe side.
