Default Tucson Drift Event Feb 17

Even though drifting is just about the dumbest thing to happen to motorsport, I somehow manage to have a good time when I go to these events. For 5 bux the ride-alongs are worth it. You will be amazed what it feels like when they initiate drift at 80mph, I almost shat myself. Check it out of you have nothing going on that weekend, at the least it's an excuse to drink beer before noon.

why is it the "dumbest thing to happen to motorsports"? is it racing? no, but it certainly has it's place and is full of talented drivers, that compete in other forms of motorsports as well. have you actually attempted to drift?
And it must be doing something right, when you see commercials of mustangs drifting for Barrett Jackson!
I say it's a completely legit form of motorsports...and the dumbest thing to happen to motorsports, for me, is seeing nothing but nascar on t.v.

I say it's a completely legit form of motorsports...and the dumbest thing to happen to motorsports, for me, is seeing nothing but nascar on t.v.

I made this comment in all due respect to the professionals of the sport having been trackside for just about every D1 event the past 3 years and supporting it's growth and validity in America.

Drifting has a lot of naysayers who don't find it legitimate, if you think about it it's sorta like figure skating for cars with a subjective means of judging and driving evaluation. I don't know how many times I've been left scratching my head over the judging at an event and seeing a great driver get slighted in the judging process. Improvements have been made in the judging such as trap speed on entry and exitting of turns and having to hit clipping points within one meter, but this can only do so much to improve the measurables of drift judging.

Until these things are fixed on the professional level, drifting will always be a great entertainment fixation along the vein of a WWE event but never to the pedigree of circuit racing and yes, nascar (i know pedigree and nascar don't exactly go together, but hell, we have a former F1 driver jump to Nascar mid-season). Don't get me wrong, the drivers and drifting series all take it very seriously, but there are flaws in the way it's run and will always have these issues.

Professional drifting is every bit political and fan favoritism as a pro wrestling match. It's grassroots drifting that can be fun and entertaining and all about the drivers and mastering your car and technique.

I called it the dumbest thing to happent o motorsport, so I wouldn't alienate the potential spectators who might think drifting is stupid (Fast and the Furious 3 did a lot to tarnish the reputation). It's a marketing technnique,
