Default STI voids warranty

I was reading a factory book about the STi parts and it says that when you install them on a new car it automatically voids the warranty. But this is for things like mufflers or suspension parts. Just anything that has to do with the mechanical part, of course stickers and things of that nature don't. No Subaru dealer or other auto shop is supposed to install them. It says that all installations have to be done by the person who purchases them. Not a very kind gesture of STi. Be carefull all of you new car owners

Default Wrong

This is directly from the Subaru web site

"*Sold "as is" without any warranty coverage. Intended for off-highway application only. May bring vehicle out of compliance with safety and/or emissions standards. Can only be lawfully installed by end user. See Subaru dealer for complete details."

Nowhere in that disclaimer does it say it will void your warranty. It says that specific part is sold without warranty coverage. They take this stance because US cars haven't been crash tested with STi performance parts, therefore they don't want to take responsibility for things that go wrong because of the part. Most shops will not install parts that bring the car "out of compliance" with national safety standards. That's what install parties are for!

Default Not all STI parts

SOA will not install or warranty the STI exhaust or STI suspension only because they are intended for "off highway use". It doesn't void anything. I had my STI exhaust installed at a local tuner shop because the dealer couldn't install it. All other factory installed STI parts should be covered.

Jeez, how many times does this have to go around???

STi/SPT parts won't VOID your warranty. But, they don't come with a warranty of their own. Just because you bolt on an STi/SPT exhaust doesn't mean they won't cover your car, but they that exhaust does not fall under the car's factory warranty.

This really has been covered and covered.

It will probably go around as many times as someone posts a reply saying the same thing as the person replied just before them but put in different words

Oops, my bad!

First off I am not a newbie and secondly that is how it is around here. The local dealers will void may void the warranty. I have no Idea how much this is talked about because I don't use this site alot and for the people who reply with mean comments, you know what you can do with it.

THe dealer can't void anything. Subaru can "deny" warranty claims.

"mean comments" to you is the truth to everyone else. Site a specific instance of what was done and what was "voided" and we'll see. But aftermarket parts don't generally come with a warranty, and Subaru has no reason to honor that or any warranty other than on parts that were on the car when it left the factory.
